Having a stateside version of our JDM imports makes the ownership experience so much easier. For instance, if you need a fender due to one of those unfortunate Costco incidents, a replacement is readily available. As most S-Chassis enthusiasts will tell you, clean examples are getting impossible to find, and prices are getting ridiculous. With this in mind, this 1993 coupe is finished in Nissans classic (KH3) Black and includes an OEM lip and spoiler. Other than a few errant dings and scuffs from normal use, the body is clean and the platform is unmolested. Utilizing a reliable naturally aspirated SR20DE, and a true manual gearbox, this RWD two-door delivers inexpensive thrills, classic styling, and premium driving dynamics.
Nissan's interior design for the S13 was spartan but did feature some creature comforts. Power windows, locks, and mirrors were all included from the factory and are all operational. Rare at the time, projector headlamps with amber fogs do a terrific job of keeping the road illuminated during nighttime use. The low slung dash and skinny A-pillars provide better visibility than current vehicles, which aids safety. The seats, which are upholstered in a grey, chequered cloth have held up nicely over the years. Unlike many S13 seats, they lack any major blemishes including bolster tears or rips. For long cruises, they provide plenty of support and look fairly understated. The headliner and interior plastics are both in above average shape, as are the matching door cards which are secured tight and taut against the doors. That's not to say the interior is perfect, and it does have some normal issues. Of note, a missing window switch, as well as non-operational audio and A/C. On the brighter side, the dash has a custom cover to obscure the typical cracks, and the OEM steering wheel is nearly mint! The factory books are included with the purchase as is a spare key, to add a touch of authenticity.
The S-Chassis has always been known for its communicative, and responsive nature. With a peppy dual overhead cam 1998cc four-banger and a true three-pedal gearbox, this RWD platform encourages the drive a bit more spirited. With the turn of a key, the SR20DE fires to life, and settles into a constant idle. At only 178K verified miles, the platform still feels balanced and responsive. While it may not be the highest spec motor offered, the lack of turbocharging keeps temperatures down and reduces the overall complexity of the motor. Another benefit of the NA power plant is that it delivers surprisingly good fuel economy. While in the shop, the SR received a fresh oil and filter change, allowing for the next three thousand miles to be enjoyed without any scheduled maintenance. It freely revs throughout the powerband making ample power for daily use. Torque is sent rearward via a close-ratio five-speed. Lacking any hitches or grinds, the little Nissan sings through the gears, to and above interstate speeds. The factory chassis and suspension are communicative and provide tons of clearance for parking and speed bumps. The 4 lug factory alloys are fashioned with a new all-season rubber that is equipped to handle less than ideal weather conditions. The brakes and steering are reassured and are able to point and stop the Silvia without breaking a sweat.
Simple styling, great mechanicals, and perfect balance all describe the Silvia. In remarkable original condition, up to date on service, this S13 is a unique Japanese Classic!
