Mechanical Overview
Mounted midship, the 3S-GTE proves time and time again to be the perfect pairing for this nimble chassis. Tame around town and an absolute weapon when pushed to its limits, this punchy 2.0 is fresh off a recent service and drives about as well as any other Toyota we’ve seen here. It cranks over swiftly, care of a new 12v battery, and stays well lubricated with a fresh oil and filter service. We also installed a new valve cover gasket so you don’t lose a drop. New spark plugs were installed to assist combustion, and with the maintenance performed, this MR2 rockets up to highway speed with haste. A 5 speed manual gearbox commands power delivery and throws it right at the rear wheels, with no hitches or grinds to note. Handling is second to none, and we’ve done a fresh alignment to ensure this tiny two-door goes right where you point it. New brake pads on the rear offer plenty of stopping power, and the bronze alloys are wrapped in good Yokohama tires.
