A properly sorted 2nd generation 4Runner here in the states may as well be an endangered species. Years and miles of wear and tear have taken their toll on our domestic offerings, making examples like this 1993 Hilux Surf that much sweeter! Finished in Prussian Red Pearl over Graphite (25T), and set off by an OEM front brushguard, OEM front rainguards, and a factory spoiler and spare tire swingarm, the exterior of this SSR-X is attractive and the sought after Recaro interior only works to increase its appeal. Save for a few paint chips, cracked fender moldings, and loss of gloss in spots of the clear, the exterior shows well overall and is set off by some choice refinished factory alloys. For those looking for a long term investment, the 113k miles on the clock are verified and documented, and should make you feel good about the purchase of this timeless rig. Stout, capable, and underpinned by fortuitous Toyota reliability, there's simply no going wrong with this Japanese Classic VZN130!
The exterior turns the heads of those in the know but the bespoke Recaro cabin steals the show for all who occupy it! Save for some light staining and repair marks on the upholstery the seats show well and do a fantastic job at keeping your occupants from sloshing about the cabin. The dash tucks nicely into the front of the cockpit and despite a couple age related cracks here and there it's clear this example was well cared for in a prior life, as we retained the previous owner's factory literature and vibrant OEM carpet mats. These trucks utilize a "keep it simple stupid" ethos on interior design and feature all the amenities one would need for daily driving. Power windows, locks, mirrors, and an easy to use climate control system. If you don't care much for cold A/C or hot heat, you can unfurl the expansive power moonroof to let the elements in. Sanyo audio works like a charm, and a factory air purifier is mounted atop a taut and tidy headliner for a bit of JDM flair. The rear bench tumbles forward to maximize cargo space in the rear, and aside from some nicks in the door cards, the cabin really impresses for being over 30 years young!
If serviceability and ease of maintenance is your primary concern, this Surf utilizes the same strong 3.0 V6 that we get here in the states. Better yet, ours is already fresh off a recent service by our trained technicians and is ripe and ready for the road ahead. On any 30 year old truck, lubrication is key and we knocked out an oil and filter service to get this 3VZ-E on track for future maintenance intervals. We also dropped in a new 12v battery to aid ignition, and gave this one a thorough drive cycle to make sure it was up to snuff for Virginia State Safety Inspection. Highway drives are pleasant, and the automatic gearbox is nicely set up for high speed cruising. Lower speed expeditions are rewarding as well, and you can utilize selective 4WD if your journeys take you off the beaten path. Like our stateside 4Runners, these trucks are easy to maneuver about town as well, and thanks to communicative power steering and healthy brakes, you can jaunt from light to light with ease. The factory alloys were refinished here to match the gunmetal two-tone, and we clad them in fresh Falken rubber. Good looking, yes, but quite capable too, they should serve the next owner well in whatever climate this lovely Surf travels to!
