Few SUV's have stood the test of time quite like Toyota's 80 series Land Cruiser. A durable, solid axle truck that can take a licking and keep on ticking, models like this 1993 are one of the reasons we deem these cruisers certified Japanese Classics. Our FZJ80 is finished in a one-off Hyperion Black and is set off by an OEM optional rear spoiler, LED tail lamps, privacy tint, OEM rainguards, and some choice refinished multipiece alloys. Better yet, the 143k miles on the clock are verified and documented, making this example quite enticing compared to our used stateside offerings. Save for some cracking gasket material on the fender flares, the paint shows well overall and should be the talk of your local Toyota truck meet. With looks that kill and a durable drivetrain that does it all, you'd be hard pressed to find another classic SUV this versatile!
To put it bluntly, this Land Cruiser is an old truck. The interior however, feels anything but, as the upmarket leather seat covers do a lot to improve the overall aesthetic inside. Showing only a few wear spots from daily use, the seating surfaces are in good nick and a desirable third row is on hand for anyone looking to haul around a full squad in their day to day. The dash has a few cracks atop the gauge hood, typical of this generation cruiser, and the center stack is packed to the gills with amenities including dual zone climate control and touch screen Panasonic audio. As you'd expect, the heat blows hot for the winter ahead and cold A/C is on tap should you need it. The adjacent audio system has been upgraded with larger door speakers and the tunes pump out at above average quality. All four power windows go up and down although the passenger side is a bit slow. The power locks and mirrors work too, and an expansive panoramic moonroof can unfurl at the press of a button. The rear bench is plenty spacious for your passengers and the third row can stow atop the D-pillars if extra cargo space is required. Overall the cabin condition really impresses. The trunk struts don't hold like they used to, the headunit goes out intermittently, and the drivers door card has succumbed to a few defects over the years, but that does little to take away from this Cruiser's appeal as a whole.
The 1FZ-FE under the hood is storied, robust, and easy to maintain. Identical to our stateside Cruisers, we've performed a thorough service on this one, starting with a new 12v battery, so this FZJ cranks over the first time, every time. We installed a new oil pump gasket, resealed the oil pan, and topped it off with a fresh oil and filter service to ensure this 4.5 stays well lubricated. A new engine air filter and fuel filter offer a bit of a preventative tune up and this I-6 roars to highway speeds without issue. On a big, lifted truck, handling is key, and we replaced both front sway bar bushings, and rebuilt the front left hub to keep the drivetrain in compliance. The suspension feels good over road imperfections large and small and is more stable at highway speeds than you'd expect out of a lifted truck. The power steering is easy to navigate, and the brakes can stop this behemoth on a dime if needed. The massive Falken rubber at all four corners is brand new, looks mean, and should deliver plenty of grip in adverse conditions for years to come!
