Tired of seeing the same old Jeep Wranglers and Tacomas at the campground? This 1991 Hilux pickup is a dedicated adventure mobile, and comes with a host of upgrades to match its all-business aesthetic. Complete with a RoofNest hard shell tent, brand new lifted suspension, and a slew of off-road accessories, this rig is offered with only 121k verified and documented miles. The body and paint are in good shape overall, and this quad cab was just refinished in a fresh coat of Stealth Gray (B9), which is a color borrowed from the Focus RS. Fresh off a recent service, this Toyota is turn-key ready to roll. For the adventurous type who refuses to drive something normal, this unique and rare diesel JDM quad-cab stands apart from the crowd. Collectible, easy to work on, and more than capable, this stick shift Japanese Classic 4x4 won't last long and is about as cool as it gets!

The cabin is simple in its layout and in good shape overall. The view of the road ahead is clear and commanding and the tall Hilux rides above traffic. The dashboard lacks any cracking, which commonly plagues these trucks. The gauges are easy to read and the switchgear is all close by. The manual windows, locks, and mirrors are fantastic for those who worry about old electronics, and carry on the Toyota's theme of simplicity. A tilt-adjustable steering wheel allows drivers of all sizes to find their ideal driving position and outward visibility is better than a modern vehicle, as this one lacks thick A pillars and a high beltline. A brand new Atoto touchscreen head unit was installed by one of our trained techs so the next owner could rock out on a road trip. Apple Carplay and Android Auto compatible, the sound quality is decent and there is a special feature we would like to mention in the next paragraph. The headliner and door cards are in good nick, and the carpets haven't sustained major abuse over the years. Even the OEM plush carpet mats are included with the purchase of the truck. The seats are upholstered in a textured gray, durable cloth lacking any major imperfections, and are comfortable on longer hauls. For those planning an immediate summer trip, this turn-key rig even has cold A/C!

Behind the cab is where the magic happens. We get plenty of requests for overland builds, so we figured we might as well accessorize this thing the right way. To keep the next owner's options open we created a one-off aluminum and steel bed assembly. It's got a diamond plate floor and tons of spots to mount additional items. Twin jerry cans are mounted behind the cab, a ratcheting farm jack and recovery boards flank the sides. It's tough to know what someone may like to do to make this their own, but it's set up in a way that a drawer storage system can be added. Atop is a massive RoofNest Condor Overland hard-top roof tent. With its integrated ladder and crossbars, this three-person tent is ideal for a quick setup with abundant interior space. LED taillights were added, as well as a 2" receiver tow hitch and trailer light hookup have been installed, allowing the full sized spare wheel to be mounted, or giving the option of towing an atv or jet ski along on your adventures. Our favorite feature was dual weatherproof speakers that were installed below the tent floor. Just pair your Bluetooth up, spark a campfire, crack a beer, and jam out with your pals in this customized Japanese Classic Hilux.

Mechanically these simple and sturdy trucks are loved around the globe due to their bulletproof nature. If you don't believe us, go Google Whistlin' Diesel or Top Gear's reviews of these classic trucks! Powering this five-seater is the trustworthy 3L diesel. It should be noted that 3L is the engine code, not the displacement and the 2.8-liter engine is fresh off an oil and filter service. The four-banger starts up promptly care of a new 12v battery, and idles with confidence. The high-pressure injection pump was resealed, along with the injectors and fuel tank removed and cleaned, and a new fuel filter was installed to keep her running tip-top! We've also replaced the glow plugs with new ones for trouble free cold starting. A five-speed manual maximizes the available power and shifts without a hitch or grind. These trucks, when new, made around 100hp, so don't expect to win any drag races. It's fun around town and can drive on the highway, but it does take longer to merge than a modern pickup, to set the expectation. A selective transfer case with low-speed gearing can be accessed with the secondary stick inside the cabin, and it takes a whole lot of rough terrain to stop this Toyota. One of our trained techs has performed a fluid flush for the front and rear differentials, as well as the transfer case itself. New Skyjacker shocks deliver a predictable ride and this Hilux is about 2" taller than stock. The brakes have also been improved since we imported the truck stateside. Front pads have been installed and this Hilux stops confidently now. Five new 33" all-terrain tires have been mounted and balanced including the spare. The new rubber looks killer and most importantly will last for tens of thousands of miles to come, a fresh alignment was also performed to complete the full reconditioning of this Toyota.
