As the marketing campaign clearly noted, Toyota invented the Swagger Wagon. This do it all, space age people mover, is a blast to whip around and is truly a Swiss army knife of a vehicle. At the beginning of the 90's this was the future; the sculpted aerodynamics, cab forward design, and thoughtful interior made the HiAce the preeminent Japanese hauler of the decade.

Starting on the exterior, this 1991 Toyota has been kept mostly original. At 51K verified miles, the Toyota White Pearl Metallic Tricoat paint is in great shape, and is very lustrous. The body panels, as well, are in good shape for the vehicle’s age, sans some grazing marks and paint nicks on both fascias; which is common as vans are traditionally used for utilitarian purposes. Otherwise, the bodywork is straight, and is devoid or major dents or dings. The clearcoat shines nicely, and the factory two tone color scheme works well. While the body is unique, the real magic occurs once you open the doors. The wine colored cabin is inviting, and feature packed. For starters, other options on this trim level include three pop-up moon roofs, an entertainment suite, and a bevy of interior seating configurations, uncommon even in today's domestic mini-vans.

Inside the cockpit, a futuristic looking digital dash sits atop the large diameter steering wheel. Monitoring the vehicles vitals is easy, as the large numbers and letters are back lit for fantastic illumination. Reclinable lounge seating, and full bevy of power amenities including an intercom, pamper this vans occupants. Seating is available for up to seven with swiveling center row seats. Overall the interior is in excellent shape, and the door cards, carpet, seats, and headliner are devoid of any large blemishes. The Burgundy color scheme of the interior is incredible, and the seats feel like a Chesterfield sofa. The material is soft, and has an almost velour-like feel. The bolstering is supportive, yet cushy, which further insulates passengers from the environment outside. The driver side bucket is even powered, and the tilt column is functional and motorized. If you wish to enjoy some privacy, the cabin is surrounded by linen curtains, and actually still has a built in television with remote. Behind the front row, occupants enjoy their own separate A/C zones and climate settings. The Japanese were the first to realize that passengers shouldn't be any less comfortable than the driver, and this van demonstrates that. The rear vented sunroofs are also functional, which is a rarity, and the center panoramic assembly opens and retracts, giving rear occupants a view of the stars above. The radio player works well, and is the largest cabin upgrade, and the interior layout is not overly cluttered. Storage and cup holders easily accessible to all, and the dash has a removable tray for snacks.

The 2.4L 2RZ-E engine (gasoline) has recently received maintenance within the past 500 miles and is ready for its next adventure. The reliable, 2.4L mill is inexpensive to maintain and comfortable driving at highway speeds. Our expert technicians have fitted a set of new tires all around, ensuring that the next owner can take this van wherever they want, as soon as they leave the dealership. Additionally, an alignment ensures proper tire wear and great driving mannerisms. The engine starts right away, idles correctly, and does not hesitate under acceleration. An oil service was just performed, so the next owner will have a road trip-ready car from day one. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly, and without issue. Power is sent to the rear wheels, which improves fuel economy over the 4WD version, and the vehicle is especially well suited for long freeway cruises. The TEMS (Toyota Electronic Modulated Suspension) system is standard on this model and appears to be functioning correctly. The short wheelbase is great for uneven terrain if you need a bit of ground clearance, and also lends itself to a tight turning radius. The steering is feather light and the suspension wafts over poor road surfaces. This HiAce combines the some great traits. Its durable, useful, and futuristic approach to design makes this Toyota a perfect Japanese Classic, turn key ready for any adventure.
