Exterior Overview
The J95 Land Cruiser is the most well rounded vehicle we sell. Comfortable, reliable, inexpensive to service, and just as capable as their full-sized siblings, rigs like this 2001 Prado are true Japanese Classics. It’s a handsome truck, too, finished in a one-off Banzai Black, and adorned by a J90 round headlamp conversion, aftermarket fog lamps, OEM rainguards, and refinished factory alloy wheels. Save for a few minor paint defects, the cosmetics offer little to complain about as a whole. Fresh off a recent service, this body on frame beast is offered with only 113k verified and documented miles on the clock. For those looking to daily drive this terrific Toyota, the same bulletproof 3.4L V6 spec’d in our stateside 4Runners is found under the hood, and this Prado would be a perfect campsite companion, cushy commuter, or capable Classic. Whichever way you spin it, this Japanese Classic is a spacious and safe SUV for the ages!
Interior Overview
Entering the cabin is seamless and accessible, thanks to OEM keyless entry, and once inside, the space is abundant, featuring three spacious rows of seating. Visibility is fantastic and a factory field monitor is mounted atop the dash to display a few useful parameters. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading and the driver benefits from a tilt adjustable steering column, and dual SRS airbags up front. Power folding mirrors, power locks, and power windows all work in typical Toyota fashion, making daily driving more enjoyable. There’s even a spacious power moonroof that can unfurl with haste. An upgraded Pioneer touchscreen looks modern and pipes tunes through the cabin. It also includes Bluetooth integration for hands free use. Below sits the automatic climate control system, which can cycle piping hot heat or cool A/C through the cabin. Rear A/C was spec’d on this example, and works like a charm to keep your passengers chilly all the way back in the third row. If you’d rather carry cargo than kids, the rear jump seats can quickly fold off to the side. The tan upholstery is soft to the touch and durable. It lacks any major rips, stains or tears and the retro pattern is mirrored in the door cards too. The headliner and carpets have resisted major abuse and aside from some wear underneath the steering wheel cover, it’s hard to critique this cabin at all.
Mechanical Overview
Sharing a platform with the 4Runner has its perks, and the 5VZ-FE V6 under the hood is one of the brand’s most legendary designs. Fresh off a recent service, we’ve given this one a tune-up for the road ahead, starting with a new 12v battery, and a new alternator to keep it charged. A new MAF sensor, new spark plugs, and a new fuel filter provide a bit of a tune up, and this 3.4 feels healthy overall. The 5VZ is linked to a stout automatic gearbox that makes good use of its broad powerband, and legendary Toyota full-time 4WD puts the power to both axles. For off road escapades, a low range and locking center differential can be deployed to keep momentum moving forward. The suspension soaks up larger road imperfections with ease, and received a substantial service here to keep handling safe and predictable. We installed new front lower control arms, new lower ball joints, and new swaybar links up front. In the rear, we replaced both upper and lower control arms. A fresh alignment was performed to make the most of the repairs, and standard ABS brakes help slow it down confidently. New rear pads, rotors, and hoses were installed in house, and to further maximize grip and stopping power, we installed all new Falken rubber on all four corners. The new tires look mean and will provide tons of grip for tens of thousands of miles to come. Composed, capable, and cool this turn key truck can be yours today!
