Exterior Overview

Just because you drive a serious off-roader doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice refinement. It’s fair to say Toyota delivered on that statement too, when they developed models like this 1999 Land Cruiser Cygnus. It’s got loads of space, a highly optioned cabin, and a true Full Time 4WD system that lets little get in its way. Finished in a one-off Bullfinch Black, this five-seater is set off by a set of matching 18″ Weds Keeler alloys, LED tail lamps, a chrome license plate garnish, and some menacing privacy tint. Aside from a few light dings, chips and scrapes, the paint is in good shape and this V8-powered brute is fresh off a comprehensive recent service. Boasting a meager 97k verified and documented miles on the clock, this superior SUV is barely broken in. Comfortable, reliable, and collectible, this Japanese Classic could make for a durable daily driver or wicked weekend warrior. Safe, easy to service, and trustworthy, this full-size Toyota is an incredible overall value!

Interior Overview

The cabin is expansive and full of desirable and rare options. Standard equipment on the Cygnus, but hardly found in Japan otherwise, the leather upholstery is a nice touch. The cowhides lack any major damage aside from some light stress cracking and are just about the most comfortable thing you can find in any of our SUV’s. Those riding up front benefit from power seats, which are heated for good measure. Your rear passengers also gain reclining rear seatbacks. The seats also split fold and tumble forward to accommodate larger cargo. The driver can settle in behind a factory woodgrain steering wheel, mated to a power tilt-adjustable steering column. Although the electronic telescope feature no longer operates, it offers a comfortable seating position overall. Dual front SRS airbags are standard, and the dashboard lacks any cracking or distortion. The center stack is close by and within arm’s reach. A USDM BOSS radio upgrade was performed in our shop and the new headunit includes integrated Bluetooth. Below, a simple to use automatic climate control system pipes in cold AC and piping hot heat. If you prefer more natural ventilation, a large power moonroof can tilt and retract, the electric side windows power down, and rear quarter glass powers outward to supplement airflow. Power folding mirrors and power locks work like a charm, too, making daily use more enjoyable. The headliner and door cards are in fine shape, and aside from non-operational rear A/C, it’s hard to critique the cabin. Even the owner’s manuals, original carpeted floor mats, and maintenance booklets are included with the purchase of this vehicle!

Mechanical Overview

Under the hood is a real titan of an engine, the 2UZ-FE. Durable as all get out, and easy to service, this 4.7 V8 is shared with our stateside cruisers, making for a seamless ownership experience. Fresh off a recent service by our trained technicians, ours cranks over with haste, care of a new 12v battery. A new engine air filter keeps contaminants out of the combustion chamber, and we also performed a fresh oil and filter service to get you on track for future maintenance schedules. The 4.7l makes substantial power and throws it to a fulltime 4WD system. A 4 speed automatic gearbox puts the power to the ground, and for when the going gets tough, a center locking differential and low gearing can propel you out of any sticky situations. The suspension is bolstered with new rear swaybar links and rear upper control arms, and the long wheelbase cruises comfortably at interstate speeds. Best of all, we’ve performed a full steering rack rebuild service to keep this Cygnus easy to maneuver for the long haul. As part of the reconditioning, we also replaced the inner and outer tie rods, rack boots, bushings, and flushed the system with new fluid. The ABS brakes grab confidently, and coupled with brand new 18″ Yokohama rubber on all four corners, you’ll have no shortage of stopping power, grip, or comfort for miles and miles to come! A fresh alignment was performed, too, before it left the shop. Save for some minor wear on a few suspension components, and a missing spare tire, this heavyweight is tough to top!
