Exterior Overview
The Land Cruiser nameplate is synonymous with reliability, capability, and dogged determination. This 1999 J95 is one heck of an example of this medium-duty chassis. Offered with only 105k verified and documented miles on the clock, this turbodiesel TX is fresh off a recent service. Spec’d with a manual gearbox, this is sure to get our enthusiast clientele excited! Boasting class-leading 4WD, this spacious and safe SUV would make for a decent, dedicated daily driver, or wild weekend playtoy. Finished in a classic Stellar Blue over Gray two-tone (K14), this righteous rig is adorned by a set of refinished factory alloys and some subtle OEM rainguards. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and a noted prior replacement of the radiator support, the cosmetics are in fine shape, and this Japanese Classic is turn-key and ready to roll!
Interior Overview
The cabin is expensive and filled with premium power options. The dashboard is in good shape and lacks any cracking or fading. Dual SRS airbags are standard equipment, and the center stack is close by and within arm’s reach. The automatic climate control system is simple to operate and doles out piping hot heat and cool A/C. If you prefer more natural ventilation, a large power moonroof can tilt and retract and the side glass powers down with the press of a button. Even the rear quarter glass flares outward for additional airflow. A brand new USDM Boss audio headunit cranks out the tunes and includes Bluetooth integration. The seats are trimmed in a durable blue and gray striped cloth. The material lacks any major rips, stains, or tears and was clearly cared for overseas. The same material can be found in the door cards, which are in equally good nick. Power windows, locks, and mirrors work as advertised, and the switchgear is intuitive to operate. If you have a full squad in tow, third row jump seats can easily deploy from the D-Pillars. The 90 series’ biggest strong suit is its interior space, and passengers are afforded far more head and legroom over similar Hilux Surf models. All in all, it’s hard to go wrong!
Mechanical Overview
The mechanicals are simple and sturdy, just like the body on the frame platform. Propulsion comes from a legendary Toyota engine, the intercooled 1KZ-TE. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 1K springs to life courtesy of two new 12v batteries. A new engine air filter and new fuel filter were installed as part of our tune-up and we slapped on a new muffler so that the four banger sounds great! A new valve cover gasket ensures the oil level stays full, and the 3.0L is connected to a five-speed manual gearbox. Shifts are direct thanks to new shifter bushings and it’s a blast to row up and down the tree in something so large. Torque is fed through a full-time 4WD system. For off-road excursions, a low range and center locker can be engaged. The driveline was improved with a new rear differential input seal. We also added a new driver side inner tie rod, front lower control arms, and new front sway bar bushings so that this rig could pass its state safety inspection with flying colors. The suspension is soft and handles road imperfections with confidence. The long wheelbase is ideal for high-speed stability, too. The standard ABS brakes feel confident and slow down this terrific Toyota with ease. The wheels are wrapped in new 31″ Falken rubber at each corner. The new tires look mean, quell road noise, and will last for tens of thousands of miles to come.
