Interior Overview
The cabin is expansive and offers tons of head, shoulder, and legroom for all! The condition is also impressive, and this Prado was clearly cared for in Japan. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading and dual SRS front airbags are standard. Once inside the cockpit, the driver is greeted with a tilt-adjustable steering column to find the ideal seating position. Power windows, mirrors, and locks are all functional, aiding daily use. The center stack includes an OEM TV/Radio that works like a charm and below, a simple to use automatic cliamte control system. The A/C blows cold, and heat is available for the winter months later this year. If you prefer natural ventilation, the rear quarter glass pops outward to supplement airflow,too. The seats are trimmed in a soft blue and gray cloth. They lack any major rips, stains, or tears, and the material is mirrored in the door cards, which are in equally good nick. The middle row reclines, split folds, and tumbles forward to create more cargo room when required. The rear jump seats can be secured tidily against the D-pillar, too. The side-hinged door opens wide to swallow your gear, and the headliner and carpets have withstood the past 25 years without sustaining major damage. That’s not to say the cabin is perfect, as we wanted to note that the power folding function of the driver’s side view mirror has given up the ghost. Still, at a quarter century old, the interior condition is impressive.
Mechanical Overview
The Prado’s power plant is familiar to most here in the US. The 3RZ-FE is fashioned under the hoods of many of our American 4Runners and Tacomas, so maintenance and repairs are stress-free. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 2.7L cranks to life immediately courtesy of a new 12V battery. So that thermal efficiency can be properly maintained, we replaced the thermostat, installed a new radiator, and exchanged the coolant with new stuff. We also replaced the engine air filter when it got on the lift. A new set of plugs, wires, and a new distributor cap and rotor were also taken care of. The four-banger gets this Landy moving happily along, and power is fed through a trusty automatic gearbox. It shifts like a champ and sends torque to both axles through a full time 4WD system. We bolstered the driveline with new front axle seals, and we also performed a fluid service on the front differential. This RZJ95 gets up to highway speeds without breaking a sweat, and it’s a comfortable interstate cruiser. The long wheelbase and soft riding suspension cushions against bumps well, and its predictable feeling overall. We have refreshed this Land Cruiser by adding new front lower ball joints and front lower control arms. The rear lower control arms were also swapped out with new units. A fresh alignment allows this rig to track straight as an arrow and maximize the life of the all-terrain tires. ABS is standard, as are disc brakes, and this sports utility is easily reeled in from freeway speeds. The power steering is light and easy to articulate, and this turn key truck is retail-ready for a road trip!
