Interior Overview
This cabin is in above-average shape and includes a few handy factory upgrades. Fans of natural ventilation will love the optional power moonroof that tilts and retacts. If you like cold A/C and piping hot heat, this Prado has you covered with its standard automatic climate control system. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading, and a centrally mounted OEM field monitor keeps occupants abreast of the outside conditions should cell service be lost. Dual SRS airbags are standard as is ABS if you happen to be safety-conscious. The OEM audio is simple to operate, and pipes tunes through the cabin, supplementing your commute. Power folding mirrors, electric locks, and power windows all work in typical Toyota fashion, making daily use more enjoyable. The seats are upholstered in a soft gray and blue cloth. They lack any major rips, stains, or tears and are comfortable on long hauls. The middle bench split folds, reclines, and can tumble forward to accommodate larger cargo. The rear jump seats can be conveniently stowed against the D-pillar, too. The headliner, door cards, and carpet lack any major blemishes, and it’s clear this Prado was cared for overseas. Even the owner’s manuals are included with the purchase of this fine truck.
Mechanical Overview
This ladder frame SUV is one tough cookie. The same thing can be said for the powerplant, the 3RZ-FE. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 2.7L churns to life immediately courtesy of a new 12V battery. A new set of spark plugs and wires was installed to ensure proper power delivery, and we also replaced the distributor cap and rotor while we were in there. One of our trained techs replaced the oil pump seal as it had developed a leak, and the four-banger now runs right as rain. It’s linked to a stout automatic gearbox that changes gear just as it should, thanks to a fresh fluid service. Underpinned by a full-time 4WD system, this RZJ95 has a low range and center locker on standby for your off-roading escapades. While on pavement, it has no issues getting up to safe highway merging speeds without breaking a sweat. Large disc brakes are ready to slow you down, and we have installed new front rotors and brake pads to keep stopping distances short. The long wheelbase distributes road imperfections well, and we have given the suspension a heavy refresh. New front shocks, front lower ball joints, front lower control arms, and front sway bar links were all installed. New inner tie rods allow for a smooth alignment, and this Land Cruiser tracks straight as an arrow. The power steering is light and easy to articulate, and the refinished 16″ OEM alloys are wrapped in new 31″ all-terrain Falken tires. Turn key and ready to roll, this lovable Landy is an incredible overall value.
