Exterior Overview
We sell more Hilux Surfs than any other dealership in the US. It’s rare one comes in that blows our mind, and this is one of those rigs. This 1999 Sports Runner edition is rear-driven and features the same bulletproof gasoline four-banger that was sold here in America. It’s reliable, easy to service, attractive, and sporty, for a body-on-frame hauler. Finished in Toyota’s lovely Natural White (056) this SUV is set off by an OEM rear spoiler, OEM fender arches, an OEM rear valence, OEM sides skirts, privacy tint, and refinished OEM 16″ alloys. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs the paint is in good shape and this truck is fresh off a recent service. Offered with only 74k verified and documented miles on the clock, this Surf is hardly broken in. Perfect as a practical daily driver, a clean slate for a PreRunner build, or a wicked weekend cruiser this terrific Toyota won’t let you down!
Interior Overview
The cabin is impressive overall, for many reasons. Its condition is nice and it includes a number of neat factory options and aftermarket upgrades. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column and adjustable lumbar support. The view of the road ahead is clear and the dashboard lacks any cracking or fading and houses dual front SRS airbags. The interior is accented by OEM faux carbon trim and the center stack includes a digital automatic climate system that fills the cabin with cool A/C and piping hot heat. If you prefer more natural ventilation the rear glass powers down and the windows are all electric. The mirrors and locks are electric too, and work in typical Toyota fashion. The OEM head unit steals the show with its fancy blue faceplate. It sounds decent too and can supplement your daily commute. The door cards are in great shape as is the headliner and carpets have withstood the past 25 years without sustaining major abuse. Fitted leather seat covers look upscale and bring a modern feel to the cabin. The middle row can also tumble forward to create a massive cargo area. Clearly cared for overseas, this Surf is one of the best we have seen in a long while.
Mechanical Overview
Under the bonnet, the trusty 3RZ-FE engine sits primed for a road trip, and is fresh off a recent service. A new intake filter was installed, allowing the 2.7L to breathe adequately. To keep the electronics reliably powered we also replaced the accessory belts with new ones. The four-banger is mated to a stout automatic gearbox that shifts like a champ. Power issent to the rear wheels and this Surf sails up to highway speeds faster than the 4WD models. The ABS brakes do a wonderful job of slowing this midsize ute down to speeds, and new front brake pads were installed while it was on the lift. One of our trained techs has heavily refreshed the suspension for the new Amercian owner. New front lower control arms, new front sway bar links, new front shocks, and a new front left wheel bearing were all installed. It rides nicely for a truck and handles potholes with confidence. The power steering is direct and on point. Freshly aligned the platform tracks straight as an arrow and we replaced the inner and outer tie rods, and chucked in some new steering rack bushings. The OEM wheels are wrapped in new Nexen rubber. The new tires reduce road noise, ride well, and will most importantly last for tens of thousands of miles to come. Turn key and ready to rock, this special Surf leaves little to be desired!
