Toyota's 80 series is considered by some to be the last true Land Cruiser. A true purpose-built machine without the luxury appointments of late-model Lexus based designs, our 1994 FZJ80 is great at getting the job done, and with only 77k verified/documented miles on the clock this example is likely to outlast its next owner if taken care of. Finished in Blue Slate Metallic (26P) Toyota enthusiasts will appreciate the factory fresh aesthetic, accented by OEM rainguards and an optional spare tire swingarm. 16" aftermarket alloys are a bit more handsome than the factory rolling stock and look great shod in fresh A/T rubber. On a 30 year old truck some defects are to be expected in the paintwork but it's nothing unsightly, as this Cruiser looks right as rain. Overland junkies, Toyota enthusiasts, and outdoorsy types will agree, the Land Cruiser 80 is a Japanese Classic that does it all.
While these trucks earned their stripes for their looks and capability, we think the interior is worth an honorable mention as well. Trimmed in durable materials, the soft-touch suede upholstery shows well, with the only glaring defect being some tears on the back of the middle bench. Even the headliner and carpet are in good nick. Those who wish to haul around the whole family will appreciate the inclusion of deployable third row seating as well. The lower dash trim is intuitively designed and houses OEM audio. Directly below lies a fully functional automatic climate control unit, with ice-cold A/C and hot heat available at a moment's notice. Linked directly to the climate control system is the nifty factory cool box, complete with an integrated ice maker which functions better than you'd expect. All four power windows are in good operation, and a power moonroof slides fore and aft should you prefer some extra natural ventilation in the cabin. Power locks and power mirrors follow suit and work in tandem to create a more accessible driving experience for all. It also has electric folding mirrors, which work only on the passenger side. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column and electric lumbar support to optimize comfort behind the wheel. Overall this Cruiser's cabin is in above-average shape, consistent with the mileage, and was clearly well cared for in a prior life.
Underpinned by the durable 1FZ-FE, this stout, body-on-frame truck is nearly identical to our stateside cruisers underneath, making both parts acquisitions and servicing a cinch! Better yet, our trained technicians have had this one up on the lift for a thorough check-in procedure, priming this one for the road ahead. In any engine, lubrication is important, and we've installed a new valve cover gasket and performed a fresh oil and filter service to ensure smooth operation after the fact. She cranks over swiftly care of a new 12v battery, and acceleration is sufficient up to highway speeds. Shifts through the automatic transmission are smooth and the truck chugs along well on the interstate. We've done a fair amount to shore up the drivetrain and maximize the turn-key experience. We installed all new outer tie rods, rebuilt both front hubs with new bearings and seals, and installed a new steering dampener to maximize stability at higher speeds. With the maintenance performed the ride is now soft and compliant, ready for whatever surface you plan on encountering. To slow this bodacious beast down, the brakes engage without hesitation, and the brand new Falken rubber grips the road confidently. Better yet, we've even given this one a fresh alignment, sure to keep this one tracking straight as an arrow for miles and miles to come!
