Third-generation Surfs are the real deal, and when they are equipped with the nearly bulletproof 1KZ-TE, they are simply too good to resist. This lifted 1997 SSR-X  model is a wonderful rig, set off by a powered OEM rear spoiler, 40th-anniversary 4Runner themed graphics package, privacy tint, and refined OEM alloys shod with 32" Falkens. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and loss of clearcoat on the front fenders she is in good shape and is finished in Toyota Black (204). Fresh off a recent service, this 4WD monster is turn-key and ready to rock, and is offered with a mere 126k verified and documented miles. Capable, collectible and cool, this KZN185 is a Japanese Classic that you can enjoy every day of the week!

The cabin is roomy, safe, and includes quite a few electric amenities and upgrades. The view of the road ahead is clear and commanding. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column and adjustable lumbar support so that they may find the ideal driving position. The center stack includes a simple-to-use automatic climate control. For those living in more seasonal climates, cold air conditioning and piping hot heat can be blasted into the cabin at will. If you prefer more natural ventilation the rear hatch glass rolls down and a power sunroof can unfurl. Adjacently mounted is a Pioneer audio upgrade. The modern-looking unit works as it should, and compliments the turbodiesel drivetrain below the bonnet. Power windows, door locks, and power mirrors all work like a charm, save for the power folding feature of the side mirrors. They make daily use more enjoyable, as well. The seats are in above-average shape and are trimmed in a soft blue and black cloth. They lack any major rips, stains, or tears and are comfy on longer hauls. The carpets and headliner are in good shape too and aside from light delamination on the custom leather door cards and a small adhesive patch on the dash from a JDM nav unit, the interior is no worse for the wear. Even the owner's manuals are located in the dash for the new owner to enjoy.

The 1KZ-TE under the hood is a powerful and efficient engine. The 3.0L is fresh off an oil and filter service and cranks to life care of a new 12v battery. A new engine air filter and new fuel filter aid the four-banger in running seamlessly, and the 2992cc mill is linked to a smooth-shifting automatic gearbox. The selective transfercase allows the driver to choose between two and four-wheel drive. If you want to plan out a beach trip, the available center locking differential and low-range 4WD are on standby. To make sure the unit operates when called upon, one of our trained techs has replaced the front driveshaft output seal. A new fluid flush was performed and the Surf feels right as rain now. It's punchy around town with its broad torque curve, and at highway speeds it cruises comfortably. The suspension is predictable and does well on loose terrain and pavement alike. The power steering is light yet direct and new inner and outer tie rods were installed while it was up on the lift in our shop. The standard ABS brakes were refreshed with new pads and rotors on the front axle. Lastly, the refinished OEM wheels were wrapped in 32" Falken tires. The beefy rubber not only looks mean but most importantly will last for tens of thousands of miles to come.  We aligned it for good measure and this turn key Toyota is ready to go!
