Toyota revitalized their entire lineup for the late 1990s, priming its powerhouse of a portfolio with new models and refreshed editions of old favorites. The Aristo was one such model that received a noteworthy refresh for its second generation, and with bold, futuristic new styling, a reworked cabin, and a VVT-i equipped 2JZ-GTE, it's no wonder why the JZS161 is a fan favorite amongst enthusiasts. Our 1997 Vertex Edition shows well in Silver Metallic (199) and is set off by chrome accent trim and a tasteful low-rise rear spoiler. Complemented by OEM 17" alloys, the factory fresh looks have aged quite gracefully. With only 95k verified/documented miles on the clock this one certainly has plenty of life left in it and is fresh off a recent service. For an all-around transporter that doesn't cut any corners, this Aristo is the Japanese Classic to get.

If comfort, style, and accessibility are a priority, the Aristo's cabin is the place to be. The two tone cloth upholstery assumes a terry-esque finish and shows well, with no serious defects to be found from the headliner to the carpet underneath. The complementary grey wood accents are in equally good nick, defining the center stack and center console trim. Tucked away in the center stack is Toyota's dual EMV multifunction display, featuring an integrated dual zone climate control unit with Cold A/C for the summer months ahead. For those looking to putt this one around in the cooler months, hot heat is on the ready should you need it. OEM JBL audio plays crisp and clear throughout the cabin, and both driver and passenger have access to front and side SRS airbags should things go awry on the road. Additionally, the driver benefits from a power tilt and telescoping steering column, and extra lumbar support on the power front seats to boot. Adding to the already full slate of power equipment, all power windows feature an automatic down function, and the power locks and power mirrors work as advertised, although the power folding feature requires the button to be held down. The Aristo can double down as a family hauler as well, and the trunk is ripe with space should you need to pack your bags for a road trip. Even the factory carpet mats were retained from its life in Japan, clear evidence this one was cared for by its previous owner. Overall, if you can see past some typical flaws on the touch points, and peeling on the door cards, this cabin should suit future occupants well.

The JZS161 Aristos underwent a massive step up in refinement, safety, and sportiness. The powerplant is the centerpiece of any performance vehicle, and this 2JZ-GTE has a legendary reputation. Ripe with cutting edge VVT-i technology, this six-cylinder starts up promptly, care of a new 12v battery. For a bit of a tune-up, our trained technicians have replaced the engine air filter and installed new spark plugs across the board. An oil and filter service was performed and she now runs right as rain! Merging onto the highway is a sight to behold in this sport saloon and the top-end power is substantial. The suspension has been refreshed with new struts all the way around, front lower ball joints, and a new left front upper ball joint. Additionally, we've replaced both rear inner and outer ARS arms and performed a fresh alignment to dial in the steering. The standard ABS brakes have been freshened up by new front pads and rotors that were installed while she was up on the lift. This beautiful barge now stops on a dime when called upon. The fresh Falken tires are knee-deep in tread and ride quietly, and they'll keep the rear wheel drive grip strong for tens of thousands of miles to come!
