1996 Toyota Hilux Surf SSR-G
Toyota revamped the looks and engine for the Hilux in 1996. Now offered with an intercooled engine and an upgraded hood with a functional hood scoop, the Hilux looks and performs better than ever. This SSR-G trim Hilux is boasting only 115k verified and documented miles. The Evergreen Pearl Metallic (751) exterior is in good nick showing only minor dings, chips, and scuffs you'd expect for a 25-year-old vehicle driven for daily use. Just taking a glance at it you'll see heaps of OEM options that this Hilux came with. The OEM brush guard with the large Toyota fog lights and the OEM spare tire carrier out back, give it that overlander look. OEM Toyota rainguards are also in place from the factory, allowing one to roll the window down and maintain dry inside. This undoubtedly cool KZN185 is a certified Japanese Classic and ready for its next chapter after a fresh service here in the US.
Inside the very spacious cabin, there is no shortage of legroom and headroom. The upholstery is in good condition, not showing any signs of major tears or rips, although we would like to note that there is some staining on the seats. The headliner is also in good shape with no sagging, but some slight staining just as the seats. Up front, the driver and passenger can rest easy knowing they have dual SRS airbags for their safety. The driver will have ease of use with the power windows, power locks, and power mirrors, even the power under mirror in the rear spoiler, which is still functional! Whether out in a hot area or in the snowy mountains, the automatic climate control is ready to cool the cabin or keep you toasty instantly. The rear passengers also have their own climate controls in case they want to switch it up from the front. The dark privacy tint helps in regulating the interior temperatures and adds more sense of privacy as well. The OEM radio in the dash is functioning but isn't able to pick up stateside frequencies, so next owner will probably want to swap it out with something more modern. Above the rearview mirror is the fully functioning field monitor giving you information like direction, temperature, and pitch/roll and in the center console are the OEM cup holders, an option not commonly found. In the rear, there is no lack of space for storage but if needed the second row is able to lay down giving you additional storage space.
The intercooled 1KZ-TE 3.0TD powering this Hilux is robust. Known for its reliability and durability and paired well with a selective 4wd automatic transmission and center locker. Turn key ready thanks to a fresh oil and filter service, 2 new 12v batteries, and a coolant flush and fill conducted by our trained technicians. To keep the engine running at the proper operating temperature we installed a new thermostat. The sound of the turbo spooling up can be heard from inside the cabin and the acceleration is impressive for such a large vehicle. 5 new 31" Falken tires have been mounted and balanced allowing for maximum traction on the asphalt or on some light off-road trails. The OEM suspension is smooth and comfortable, perfectly capable of daily driving or for weekend getaways. Another great feature this Hilux has is that stiffness of the suspension can be changed between normal and hard with the click of a button inside the cabin. If you're looking for a practical and reliable SUV that'll do just about anything you ask it to and look cool doing it, this recently serviced Hilux is the ticket!
