Exterior Overview

While it may sound a bit controversial, the FJ Cruiser is a real Japanese Classic. Built in Japan, and designed to mimic the spirit of vintage Land Cruisers, these trucks are tough, tenacious, and make for swell daily drivers. For the FJ market, this 2011 Upgrade Package 3 is a rare “Not So Special” special edition, with a distinct Army Green (6V7) exterior, matching color-keyed interior, and enough styling cues and mechanical features to make any enthusiast go nuts. The exterior is set off by a few factory options, and some useful upgrades too. A factory roof rack is fun and functional, and an aftermarket front brushguard, wide fender flares, and side steps compliment it nicely. The paint is in good shape, with only a few normal dings, scuffs, and chips, and the factory TRD off-road wheels polish off the aesthetic. Best of all, the 122k miles on the clock are documented, and this FJ boasts just two verified owners. Stylish, strong, and trail-ready, this terrific Toyota just needs a new owner!

Interior Overview

Stepping into this Cruiser’s cockpit feels as if you’re manning a tank, and in some ways, that’s entirely true. Designed to be durable, comfortable, and chock full of necessary equipment for daily use, the army green and charcoal cloth shows well save for a prior repair to the driver’s seat bolster. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column, to help you see above the prominent dash. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading and houses dual SRS airbags. Seat-mounted and curtain airbags are also on standby. The center stack is close by and within arm’s reach. A massive radio upgrade replaces the dated factory switchgear with an easy to use touchscreen. Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth handsfree technology work in tandem to pump your tunes throughout the cabin, and the sound quality is above average overall. The climate control system below works like a charm and delivers piping hot heat and cool A/C. A large glovebox and dash-mounted driver storage compartment afford passengers additional space for their bits and bobs, and the center console is sizable, too. Aspiring overlanders will love the dash mounted OEM field monitor, and close by controls to engage an optional rear locking differential. The headliner and carpets are in good shape, and save for a few scratches in the door cards and stains on the seats, it’s hard to nitpick this Cruiser’s condition overall.

Mechanical Overview

Toyota only offered one engine option for the FJ, and the 1GR-FE under the hood is all you need. Fresh off a recent service, this truck fires up with the help of a new 12v battery. An oil and filter service was performed, and we nipped a few pesky oil leaks in the bud to make your ownership experience simple. We resealed the timing cover, installed new valve cover gaskets, and also repaired a seeping VVT oil feed line. Six new spark plugs were installed to properly combust your fuel, and a new MAF helps meter the air entering the TRD intake. The extra induction helps this FJ roar up to highway speeds, and the automatic gearbox is responsive and smooth. There’s even an auxiliary fuel tank so you don’t run out of petrol when blazing new trails. It cruises comfortably on the interstate, and to help dial in the suspension, we installed new front lower control arms and front lower ball joints. Some existing suspension components show light wear, and this Cruiser has a small spacer lift installed. The power steering is direct and easy to maneuver, and the ABS brakes do a swell job at bringing this Cruiser to a halt. Lastly, four new Falken tires were mounted up, and we freshly aligned this NSSE so you stay glued to the pavement, snow, or wherever this truck may go!
