Exterior Overview
The UZJ100 Land Cruiser has a global reputation for unmatched durability, reliability, and capability. Here in the USA, it’s still common to see these behemoths trudging down the interstate, parked at the supermarket, and out at the beach. They have loads of space for family and friends, and are easy to service with their nearly bulletproof V8, 4WD powertrain. This 2000 is also quite handsome with its wide aftermarket fender arches, OEM rear spoiler, new Icon wheels, Satoshi-style grille, OEM rainguards, tow receiver, and White Pearl (057) paint. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs, this 116k verified and documented mile rig is in good shape cosmetically and is fresh off a comprehensive service. High on style and substance, this safe and spacious Japanese classic is an amazing value and would make for a decent daily driver or a dependable dedicated overlander.
Interior Overview
Once inside the cabin, it’s apparent Toyota invested in high quality materials. The tan seats are in above-average shape and are trimmed in a soft gray cloth. The material lacks any major rips, stains, or tears and was cared for overseas. They are supportive, and pilots of all sizes can find the ideal seating position courtesy of a tilt-adjustable steering column. Rear occupants also benefit from a reclining rear bench. When not in use, the rear row tumbles forward to create a flat loading floor and also can split fold. The sculpted dashboard lacks any cracking or fading, and dual SRS airbags are standard. The center stack is dominated by a large touchscreen infotainment unit. It controls the climate system, which can be set to pipe in cold A/C or piping hot heat. The system works well aside, although we did want to note the polarized screen has some light UV damage, which is common. Power folding mirrors, electric locks, power windows, and cruise control all work in typical Toyota fashion. This Cruiser was spec’d with a desirable panoramic moonroof which can tilt and retract to supplement cabin airflow. The door cards, headliner, and carpets have withstood the past quarter century without sustaining major abuse, and aside from a non-functional driver lumbar adjuster, it’s hard to complain about the cabin.
Mechanical Overview
The mechanicals are sturdy, as is the body-on-frame construction. The V8 is prolific, and ours is fresh off an oil and filter service. The 2UZ-FE starts up with the twist of the key, and a new 12V battery will ensure that continues for a long while to come. To keep all that new oil internal to the engine, one of our trained technicians resealed the oil pan. When it was on the lift, we performed a coolant flush so that the 4.7L would stay on top of thermal management, too. New hood shocks were installed, as well, so future fluid checks can be easily accomplished. The DOHC mill is linked to a stout automatic gearbox that shifts just as it should. Torque is funneled through a Full-Time 4WD system before it gets to the pavement. For off road expeditions a center locking differential and low range can be deployed to keep momentum moving forward. It drives great on the highway with its long wheelbase, and the aftermarket torsion bars and rear springs add a little to the standard ride height for added clearance. The suspension was refreshed with new front lower ball joints, and we aligned everything so it tracks straight as an arrow. The power steering is light and easy to articulate, making parking this large SUV simple. Lastly, we wrapped the wheels with brand new Falken all-terrain tires. The new rubber looks mean, quells road noise, and will last for tens of thousands of miles to come.
