Exterior Overview
This three door Pajero is a unique, stylish, and functional 4×4 that fills an interesting niche in the market. The body is compact enough to be utilized as an around-town runabout or city commuter, but the stout 4WD underpinnings make it a solid camping companion or trail toy. Best of all, the V6 engine shares parts with domestic examples here in the good old USA. It’s also a looker, too, finished in Mystic Black (X08), and set off by an optional rear spoiler, OEM Rainguards, blackout grille, and aftermarket lowering springs to give this SUV a rally-inspired silhouette. Save for some minor nicks and light spots of paint fade, the paintwork is in good condition overall and grabs plenty of attention. Best of all, the 32k miles on the clock are verified, documented, and incredible to see on a vehicle of this vintage. Simply put, we have no reservations about calling this Pajero a Japanese Classic. It looks like one, drives like one, and is collectible to boot!

Interior Overview
The interior is spec’d well, and with a handful of power amenities and surprisingly good fit and finish, it fits right in with modern day to day commuting. The seats are upholstered in a durable black leather. The front buckets are heated, the driver’s seat is power adjustable, and your rear passengers benefit from reclining seatbacks if they need to catch some shuteye. The black accents extend throughout the cabin, and the dash and optional woodgrain steering wheel are in good shape. The cruise control works as its hould, and is mounted on a stalk on the adjustable steering column. Dual SRS airbags assist forward passengers in any on-road emergencies, and the center stack is intuitively designed, with a functional OEM display screen, automatic climate control, and OEM audio. To make daily commuting a bit simpler, power locks, windows, and electric folding side mirrors are in good working order. It even has power-adjustable HID headlamps to better illuminate the roadways. Equipped with a factory cold-weather package, this Pajero also touts heated wipers and side mirrors! The headliner is clean, as are the carpets, and optional aluminum door sills protect your paintwork from getting scuffed up upon entry and exit. That’s not to say the cabin is perfect, as we wanted to note the sunroof has been disconnected, and the rear seats no longer stow against the D-pillar.

Mechanical Overview
Under the hood, the 3.5 V6 is as good as gold, with a surprisingly potent powerband, readily available parts, and a hefty recent service performed by our trained technicians. It cranks over with urgency, care of a new 12v battery, and a fresh oil and filter service was performed. We tackled some tricky preventative maintenance by performing a scheduled timing belt and water pump replacement, and we replaced the thermostat and flushed in all new coolant while we were in there. We reassembled the front of the engine with a new accessory belt to drive your electronics, and installed a new engine air filter to keep unwanted contaminants out. It soars up to highway speeds, and a tiptronic style automatic gearbox shoots power to the Super Select 4WD transfercase. For premier acceleration and fuel economy, the driver can hang out in RWD, but 4WD can be selected on the fly, with a center locking differential and low range in your back pocket if you need extra traction. The suspension cruises smoothly over bumps, and this compact SUV has an impressive turning radius for a 4×4. The ABS brakes grab strong, and to maximize traction and comfort on pavement, the all-terrain tires are knee deep in tread.
