Exterior Overview
Toyota’s Land Cruiser is a prolific model, and these classic rigs are back in a big way. Just take a look at the brand’s new offerings, which are trying awfully hard to replicate the panache of 80’s and 90’s trucks. Our 1999 UZJ100 is as good as it gets, with a determined V8 engine, stout 4×4 underpinnings, and the same tough body-on-frame construction that earned this full-sized Cruiser its flowers. It’s a looker too, set off by LED tail lamps, OEM rainguards, menacing privacy tint, and one-piece headlamps. Complementing the sleek bodywork, Icon alloys fill in the wheel wells nicely, and are wrapped in brand new Falken rubber to increase form and function. Save for some minor paint imperfections, chips, and dings, the White Pearl (057) paintwork shows nicely, and the 86k miles on the clock are verified, documented, and do a lot to cement this Cruiser’s value. As a dependable daily, rugged trail crawler, or comfortable road trip chariot, this Japanese Classic Land Cruiser 100 is a mean machine!
Interior Overview
The interior is everything you’d expect out of a luxury SUV. Plush, comfortable and packed with the space and power amenities to make daily driving a cakewalk! The seats are trimmed in a durable tan cloth, and are in great shape for being over two decades old. The same can be said for the dash materials, which have resisted any cracking or separation over the years. The cockpit is accented by a stylish woodgrain steering wheel, and dual SRS airbags are present up front to provide some additional peace of mind for your forward passengers. Accessibility is made easy, thanks to factory keyless entry, and power windows, locks, and mirrors also work well in true Toyota fashion. The center stack features an easy to use climate control unit where dual zone Cold A/C and heat can be funnelled in on command, and if you prefer a natural breeze to fill the cabin, a power moonroof retracts at the press of a button. Adjacent to the HVAC, upgraded BOSS audio sounds crisp and clear and features Bluetooth to pump your own tailored tunes into the cabin. For resourceful types, the middle bench can be reclined or flipped forward to maximize cargo space in the hatch. The headliner is tight and tidy, and the carpets are free of major stains or tears. Overall there’s little to complain about with this 100 series. There’s a non-operational disc changer in the center console, and a rear wiper that no longer works, but otherwise the condition indicates it was clearly cared for in a prior life.
Mechanical Overview
Under the hood is one of Toyota’s best truck engines, the 2UZ-FE. It’s inexpensive to service, reliable as can be, and is fresh off some solid maintenance performed by our trained technicians. This 4.7l cranks over care of a new battery, and settles into a smooth idle after we changed the oil and filter. A new alternator was installed to keep the battery properly charged, and we installed a new engine air filter and fuel filter for a bit of a tune up. The UZ series has an incredible reputation for being reliable and refined, and this one jets up to highway speeds with an abundance of power and torque. An automatic gearbox puts the power down to all four wheels, and for true off-road scenarios, a center locking differential and low gearing can rapidly be deployed. Some chassis maintenance was needed before this Cruiser’s state inspection, and we performed an extensive steering rack rebuild service consisting of new seals, bushings, inner and outer tie rods, and steering boots. This cruiser doesn’t sweat a drop now, and goes right where you point it! The suspension insulates the cabin nicely over larger road imperfections, and we’ve corrected the AHC to account for the larger wheels and tires. New pads and rotors bolster the ABS system, and to prolong the life of the fresh Falken all terrains, a four wheel alignment was performed here at the shop!
