Exterior Overview
Targeting the class-leading 3 Series from Bavaria, Toyota’s Altezza was a hit upon its release just prior to the end of the last millennium. This sporty 1999 model is a blast to drive, with its balanced chassis and zingy 2.0L BEAMS four-cylinder powerplant. Finished in an eye-catching Blue Mica (8M6), this sedan is set off by 18″ WEDS Leonis wheels, OEM rainguards, an aggressive OEM rear spoiler, and some mean rear privacy tint. Fresh off a recent service, this exciting sports saloon is offered with only 70k verified and documented miles on the ticker. Perfect as a fun commuter, the reliable, practical, and fun SXE10 is a hard value to beat. Composed, comfortable, and cool, this is a certified Japanese Classic!
Interior Overview
The cabin feels more modern than most of our imports, and the ergonomics are also decent. Upgrades include a USDM Bluetooth-equipped BOSS headunit that pumps out the tunes to supplement the 3S-GE under the hood. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column to find the ideal driving position, and both front occupants benefit from dual SRS airbags. The dash lacks any cracking or fading and is in good overall condition. Power windows, power locks, and power-folding mirrors all work in typical Toyota fashion and make daily use more enjoyable. The seats are in above e average shape and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. The multicolored cloth is also durable and can withstand abuse better than older Toyota upholstery. Digital automatic climate control is standard and doles out cold A/C and piping hot heat upon request. The knobs are also large and easy to grasp and the dials are easy to read. The door cards, carpets, and headliners have withstood the past 25 years without sustaining major damage, and as a whole, its really hard to nitpick the interior. Even the OEM carpet mats are included with the purchase of this Altezza.
Mechanical Overview
Featuring 50/50 weight distribution and rear drive, this is a sports car to the core. The 3S-GE is a wonderful mill, and is fresh off an oil and filter service. The 2.0L churns to life with the twist of the key and breathes freely care of a new engine air filter. Additionally, a set of spark plugs were installed so that the fuel would be atomized properly, and the 3S feels as healthy as a horse. For some peace of mind, one of our trained techs addressed a few oil leaks. The transmission pan was resealed and a new valve cover gasket was installed while on the lift. The gearbox shifts properly and the little Toyota gets up to highway speeds promptly, without breaking a sweat. We shored up the powertrain with a new rear differential seal and rehabbed the suspension a bit while we were at it. New rear struts deliver a more refined and predictable feel and the front caster bushings were replaced for state inspection. To prolong tire life a fresh alignment was performed and this car goes right where you point it. The steering is smooth as glass thanks to a new power steering pump and the ABS brakes bite down hard and slow this sedan down quickly. Grip is handled by four new all-season tires mounted and balanced at each corner. The tires reduce road noise greatly and will last for tens for thousands of miles to come.
