Exterior Overview
The Legacy GT is a touring wagon in every sense of the term. Underpinned by a balanced boxer four and true symmetrical AWD, the benefits of this JDM twin-turbocharged example are endless, and with 61k miles on the ticker this wagon has plenty of life left in it. Finished in Aspen White (51E), this Leggy boasts a few choice upgrades, like one piece OEM rainguards, a factory rear spoiler, and optional Xenon headlamps. It also looks classy too, rolling on 17″ Rays Versus Sesto Turismo alloys. A few dings and expected paint imperfections are present on the body but for a 25 year old rig it’s hard to complain overall, as the paint has hardly lost its luster. Quick, capable, and eye-catching to Subie enthusiasts in the know, this is a real deal Japanese Classic that just gets cooler with age!
Interior Overview
The interior is worth bragging about too, as it’s finished in a durable cloth and leather combo we never got in the states. It’s also accented by some sleek blackwood trim, and has a full slate of power equipment to keep any pilots and passengers pleased. To aid accessibility, the driver gains power adjustable seating, and controls for the power windows, locks, and electric folding side mirrors are within arms reach. A digital automatic climate control unit looks and feels modern in the center stack, and pumps out cold A/C or hot heat on request. Adjacent to the HVAC is a saab-style flip out cupholder and a Pioneer audio system with Bluetooth functionality. A tilt adjustable steering column mounts a factory MOMO steering wheel, and this is definitely one of the most comfortable cabins we’ve seen from the brand thus far. To create an expansive cargo hold, the rear bench can fold fully flat, and it’s plenty spacious for additional passengers too. The headliner is tight and tidy, and the matching upholstery in the door cards is good to boot. Overall, there’s not much to complain about aside from some wear to the soft touch plastics.
Mechanical Overview
Subaru has fun down to a science, and a turbocharged boxer four is typically the recipe. This Legacy is no different, and the EJ206 is fresh off a recent in house service to boot. Bolstered by twin-turbo power, this 2.0 is fresh off an oil and filter service and springs to life care of a new 12v battery. We chucked in a new engine air filter and it runs right as rain, although we wanted to note a minor seepage from the valve cover gaskets. To the expert Subaru tech, this is hardly a concern and this EJ still shoots right up to highway speeds with haste. An automatic gearbox takes the reins, and power is transferred smoothly to all four wheels, with a FGK backbox bringing the signature boxer rumble to life. We resealed the transmission pan, and performed a fluid exchange on the rear differential for good measure, and this Legacy is primed and ready for daily duty. Stopping power is handled, care of a new front caliper, and new pads and rotors on the front to assist the ABS system. A new inner and outer tie rod on the left front help keep the drivetrain safety compliant, and the Rays wheels are wrapped in brand new rubber on all four corners, with a fresh alignment maximizing tire life for the road ahead!
