Exterior Overview
Tough yet civilized, this 1999 Land Cruiser proves that you don’t need to compromise when shopping for a quality SUV. Utilizing 4Runner parts, but with more size and refinement, this reliable and capable truck does it all. Finished in a classic Natural White (056) over Gray, this Prado is set off by a set of color-matched and refinished OEM alloy wheels. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs, the paint is in good shape, and this 4×4 is fresh off a recent service. Boasting only 106k verified and documented miles on the clock, this eight-seater feels fresh as a daisy. Safe enough to be a year-round family hauler, this terrific Toyota would also be at home bounding about the beachfront or meandering through the mud. Trusty, practical, and spacious, this Japanese Classic offers a nearly unbeatable value!
Interior Overview
The cabin is clean, ergonomic, and sizable. It’s got loads of headroom, legroom, and shoulder room, and can seat the Brady bunch if you leave Alice at home. The BOSS audio upgrade was performed by us in-house, so the new owners can enjoy Bluetooth integration and American radio stations. Pilots of all sizes are able to find the ideal seating position thanks to a tilt-adjustable steering column. The center stack includes a brand new Boss audio head unit that we installed. It includes American radio stations and Bluetooth integration. Below the automatic climate controls are easy-to-operate and the system doles out piping hot heat and cold A/C so this rig can be enjoyed year-round. Optional rear heat was included with this build for those living in colder climates. Power folding mirrors, power locks, and power windows all work in typical Toyota fashion, making daily use more enjoyable. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading, and dual SRS airbags are standard equipment. The seats are trimmed in a textured blue and grey cloth that is mirrored in the door cards. The material lacks any major rips, stains, or tears and is soft to the touch. The middle row can recline, split-fold, and can tumble forward to accommodate more cargo. The rear jump seats stow tidily against the D pillar, too. The headliner and carpets have resisted major wear over the years and aside from a crack in the center console lid, it’s hard to critique this cabin
Mechanical Overview
Designed atop a sturdy ladder chassis, this body-on-frame SUV can withstand a lot of abuse. The same can be said for the 3RZ-FE engine, which was also offered to our domestic market. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 2.7L hums to life courtesy of a new 12v battery. It breathes freely with its new engine air filter, and proper combustion is handled by four new spark plugs. So all that fresh oil would stay internal to the four-banger, we replaced the leaky valve cover gasket and worn distributor O-ring. The 3RZ makes adequate power to merge up to highway speeds easily when you mash the gas. The transmission shifts properly, and the Full-Time 4WD system has settings for a low range, and the pilot can also lock the center differential. When driving atop the pavement, the long wheelbase distributes road imperfections well. Aided by brand-new shocks at all four corners, we also replaced the front lower ball joints and front sway bar endlinks for good measure. We didn’t stop there, though. The steering rack was rebuilt, new fluid was flushed in, and new bushings and boots were installed. We performed an alignment immediately after and replaced the inner and outer tie rods with new ones, so future adjustments would be buttery smooth. So that the brand new 31″ Falken tires would last as long as possible, we aligned this lovable Landy. It tracks straight as an arrow and is road-ready for its first long haul here in the US!
