Once in a blue moon we import a truck that has the whole dealership abuzz. This unmolested 1999 Land Cruiser is most people’s “one day” vehicle, that just happens to be here today! Finished in a classic Pearl White (057), this VX Limited model is adorned with a desirable OEM spare tire swingarm, OEM rainguards, a factory optional bumper guard and skidplate, and chrome factory alloy wheels. Aside from a few tiny dings, chips, and abrasions, the paint is good shape. Fresh off a recent service, this 4×4 boasts an absurd 31k verified and documented miles on the ticker and only one verified owner from Japan! With a refined and spacious interior, and loads of safety features, this would make for a clean year round family hauler or fun weekend warrior. For those who care about condition, this rig won’t let you down. With miles that low, this reliable, collectible, and capable Japanese Classic cannot be replicated!
Interior Overview
The cabin is in above-average condition in nearly every regard. Access is made more seamless thanks to functional keyless entry. Both front occupants benefit from dual SRS airbags and heated seats. The dashboard lacks any cracking or distortion, and the center stack is close by and within arm’s reach. Pilots of all sizes can utilize a tilt-adjustable steering column to find the ideal driving position. Power locks and power folding mirrors work in typical Toyota fashion, making daily use more enjoyable. A period-correct Pioneer radio upgrade fills the cabin with sound, and the quality is decent. Below, the automatic climate control unit is located. It is intuitive to operate and doles out piping hot heat and cold A/C. If you prefer more natural ventilation, the rear quarter glass pops outward, the windows can be automatically powered down, and the large panoramic moonroof tilts and retracts. The tan upholstery is in above-average shape and lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. Forward passengers benefit from heated seats too, to warm your tush. The same material is mirrored in the door cards, which look great. The middle row can tumble forward, and the rearmost seats are intact and stow snugly to the side of the cargo area if you need to improve capacity. The headliner and carpets are in good shape, and overall, this cabin feels cherry!
Mechanical Overview
This trusty, body on frame 4×4 can go about anywhere. Power is provided by one of the most legendary Japanese V8s, the 2UZ-FE. Popping the hood to check fluids is stress free thanks to new hood shocks. When it rolled onto the lift, we chucked in a brand new battery to aid ignition, and performed an oil and filter service. A new fuel filter and engine air filter keep the 2UZ running right as rain, and the dual overhead cam mill is linked to a stout automatic gearbox. Shifts feel reassured, and torque is sent through a Full-Time 4WD transfercase. For any of your off-roading exploits, a low range and center locking differential can be engaged, and are always on standby. It gets up to highway speeds with ease and is a comfortable cruiser. Cruise control can be set when you are on longer jaunts. To slow down, large ABS brakes clamp down with force. The power steering is light and on point, and front sway bar links were installed prior to its VA state safety inspection. Lastly, we mounted and balanced four new Falken tires. Freshly aligned, this Landy tracks straight as an arrow, and the new all-terrain rubber will last for tens of thousands of miles to come.
