Exterior Overview

The largest, most luxurious, and powerful SUV we import at the moment is the J100 Land Cruiser. This 1999 seems to do just about everything, well. With seating for eight, this safe and spacious Japanese Classic is ideal for lugging the family up to the lake house in style. Finished in a classic Pearl White (057), this rig is adorned by a stylish OEM spoiler, OEM rainguards, new ICON alloys, and some subtle privacy tint. Aside from a few scrapes, dings, and chips, the paint is in good shape, and this VX Limited is fresh off a recent service. Boasting a mere 132k verified and documented miles on the clock, this JDM example has logged a lot less use than our traditional American stock. Reliable, easy to service, and tough as nails, this terrific Toyota can do no wrong!

Interior Overview

The cabin is in above-average shape and comes nicely optioned. It also includes a few upgrades, like the BOSS audio system we installed, so that the new owner could enjoy Bluetooth and American FM radio frequencies. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading, and dual SRS front airbags are standard equipment. The automatic climate control system is close by and within arm’s reach of the driver and passenger. The A/C can be dialed in for the summer ahead and piping hot heat is primed for the winter months. To find the ideal piloting position, the driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column and electric lumbar support. Power folding mirrors, electric locks, and power windows all work in typical Toyota fashion, making daily use more enjoyable. Cruise control is standard, too, should you be planning an immediate road trip with this big truck! The seats are trimmed in a soft yet durable tan cloth. They lack any major rips, stains, or tears and were clearly cared for overseas. The middle row reclines and also tumbles forward to accommodate larger cargo. The rear jump seats can be easily stowed against the D-pillar for the same reasons. The headliner and door cards are in fine shape, and even the owner’s manual is included with the purchase of this lovable Landy. Aside from some light carpet stains its hard to nitpick this one.

Mechanical Overview

Built atop a body on frame platform, this thing can handle loads of abuse. The same can be said for the engine, which is fresh off an oil and filter service. The 2UZ-FE churns to life immediately courtesy of a new 12V battery. We installed a set of hood shocks before replacing the alternator, and one of our trained techs also replaced the valve cover gaskets so that the oil level stays full. The 4.7l feels strong as an ox and is linked to a stout automatic gearbox. It shifts properly and sends power through a full-time 4WD system. It hustles up to highway speeds without hesitation and slows down quickly when called upon, with its large disc brakes and standard ABS. For off-road excursions, a low range and center locker can be deployed to keep momentum moving forward. The suspension rides nicely, and the optional active height control suspension allows the Land Cruiser to be raised and lowered with the press of a button. New front lower ball joints, new front wheel bearings, and new inner and outer tie rods were replaced for state inspection purposes. The long wheelbase distributes bumps smoothly, and a fresh alignment was performed so this UZJ100 tracks straight as an arrow. The power steering system was completely refreshed. The rack was rebuilt, new boots and bushings installed, and a fluid flush was performed. Lastly, we mounted and balanced four new 33″ Falken tires at each corner.
