Exterior Overview
We sell a lot of Surfs, but this 1996 is a cut above. It’s got a clean cabin, a torquey turbodiesel engine, a unique color, and an incredibly low 71k verified and documented miles on the clock. Fresh off a recent service, this Soul Red Crystal Metallic (46V) example is set off by WEDS Keeler alloys, an OEM spare tire swingarm, and a set of subtle OEM rainguards. Aside from a few light imperfections, the body is in good shape, and this turnkey five-seater is ready to roll. Reliable, safe, efficient, and capable, this Japanese Classic is as well-rounded as they get. Dependable enough to be daily driven, this would also make for a wonderful weekend warrior or cool Cars and Coffee cruiser. A 4×4 with substance, this terrific Toyota is the cream of the crop.
Interior Overview
The cabin is in above-average shape for its age and is nicely equipped. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column and adjustable lumbar support. The center stack is close by and includes functional OEM audio and automatic climate control. The AC is cool and the heat piping hot, so this Surf is primed for year-round use. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading, and dual SRS are standard equipment. Power mirrors, electric windows, and electric locks all work like a charm, making daily use enjoyable. The gray seats are in above average nick, and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. The rear row can split fold, 4-way recline, and tumble forward to create a flat loading floor. The door cards and headliner are nearly mint, and the carpets have withstood the past quarter century without sustaining major abuse. Even the OEM carpet mats are included with the purchase. If this cabin doesn’t make you happy, we will be hard-pressed to find one that will!
Mechanical Overview
The engine is an absolute gem, the 1KZ-TE. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 3.0L springs to life courtesy of a new 12 v battery. A new engine air filter and fuel filter were installed as part of our tune-up, and we slapped on a new set of belts and a new alternator to keep your onboard electronics properly powered. So that the oil level will stay on full, one of our trained technicians installed a new valve cover gasket and half moon seals. The 1K is linked to a stout automatic gearbox that shifts like a champ. The pilot can switch between 2WD and 4WD on the fly, and a center locker and low range can be engaged when additional grip is required. It gets up to highway speeds in a jiffy and slows down with confidence thanks to its standard ABS. The power steering is communicative and predictable for a truck, and the suspension has been refreshed with new rear shocks. A fresh alignment ensures that this rig tracks straight as an arrow and that the new 31″ Falken tires will last for tens of thousands of miles to come.
