For the 100 series, Toyota improved build quality tenfold, and transformed the platform into a luxury benchmark for the brand.

Exterior Overview

Toyota’s transition to the 100 series platform after discontinuing the 80 series was an incredible one. Sure the brand abandoned the traditional solid axle layout for independent front suspension, and softened the exterior styling a bit, but they improved build quality tenfold, and transformed the platform into a luxury benchmark for the brand. Our 1999 is a solid example, unmolested cosmetically and finished in Warm Silver Metallic (1B1). Set off by an OEM rear lollipop mirror and brand new ICON alloys, the cosmetics are in fine shape save for a few minor chips, scratches and dings. Better yet, the 104k miles on the clock are verified and documented, and position this 100 series nicely in the market compared to its high-mileage brethren. Ideal for comfy road trips, year-round commuting, or dedicated trips to the great outdoors, this Japanese Classic does it all, and crushes it every time!

Interior Overview

Hop up into the interior and it’s hard to imagine you’re in a 90’s Toyota. The build quality is rock solid, with heavy doors, thick materials, and a slew of power switchgear to assist daily driving. As evidenced by this Cruiser’s condition, it was cared for well in a prior life, too. The seats and door cards are upholstered in a durable patterned cloth. It assumes an almost plush texture, and has resisted most major rips, stains, and tears. The same can be said for the condition of the headliner and carpets beneath, as well as the upholstery that extends back to an optional third row. Compared to the 80 series that preceded it, the dashboard was fully reworked. This 100 series boasts an optional EMV touch screen, which integrates audio and climate controls into a responsive unit. The sound quality is good for its vintage, and the HVAC doles out piping hot heat and A/C on command through a functional dual-zone layout. It’s also a safe cabin, with dual SRS airbags up front, and rock solid construction throughout. The driver benefits from a tilt adjustable steering column, and power lumbar support for comfort on long drives. The middle row is spacious, and the rear jump seats can rapidly deploy if you need to pile in a full squad. Power windows, locks, and power folding mirrors work like a charm, and this VX-limited was optioned with a large electric moonroof that can unfurl to let in a natural breeze. It’s surrounded by a tidy headliner, which matches the rest of the cabin’s condition. Overall, it’s uncommon to find a cruiser in this condition. In the states, we often use and abuse these interiors, and if you can see past some delamination to the touch screen, it’s really difficult to nitpick overall. Even the factory owner’s manual, maintenance booklets, and a set of plush carpeted OEM floor mats are included.

Mechanical Overview

Under the hood lies a real powerhouse, the 4.7l 2UZ-FE. These V8’s run butter smooth, deliver excellent power and torque, and after a recent service by our trained technicians, this terrific Toyota is ready to tackle daily driving here in the states. A new 12v battery was installed to aid ignition, and we performed an oil and filter service to get you on track for future maintenance schedules. We also dropped in a new engine air filter, and changed out the fuel filter to keep your petrol free of contaminants. These 8 cylinder powerplants have an extraordinary reputation for being nearly unkillable, and this one runs like a top all the way to redline! The automatic gearbox is stout and shifts smoothly, and it sends power to a fulltime 4WD system, with high and low gearing in case you become entrenched in tough terrain. The suspension cruises comfortably, and benefits from new rear upper and lower control arms. This allowed it to pass state inspection with ease, after we chucked on some new front swaybar links for good measure. The steering is light and direct, and this behemoth of an SUV handles better than you’d expect. The same can be said for the braking performance. Proper stopping power is nothing without a good set of rubber on the road, and we wrapped the ICON alloys in fresh 33″ Falken tires. If you want a well kept, no nonsense hauler, this Japanese Classic would be a smart investment, as it’ll likely outlive you!
