Exterior Overview
Japanese Classics like the Prado are back in a big way. Not that they ever left, but these trucks fill a void in the market our domestic models just can’t satisfy. Trucks like this 1999 Land Cruiser TX Limited are backed by a bulletproof turbodiesel drivetrain, are body-on-frame in construction, and are in great shape overall, like most vehicles we see from the motherland. Finished in Natural White/Silver (K72), this Prado is a looker, set off by OEM rainguards, chrome mirror caps, and an optional rear lollipop mirror which is fun and functional. Save for a few paint defects and minor wear and tear, the cosmetics show much better than most 25 year old trucks, and the 87k miles on the clock are verified and documented, which do a lot to back up that statement. Sharing a frame with our domestic 4Runners, the ownership experience on these Prados is seamless, and as a whole, we think this is one of the best classic 4×4’s you can invest in!
Interior Overview
The interior makes daily use easy. Not only is it jam packed with power amenities and creature comforts, it’s surprisingly spacious to boot, and is upholstered in a premium cloth interior that coddles all eight occupants nicely. The seats are in good shape, with no discernible rips or tears on the upholstery, and if you’re not hauling around a full squad, the third row can deploy against the d-pillars to expand the cargo hold. Up front, both driver and passenger are pampered with amenities, like premium Eclipse audio, and an easy to use climate control system that boasts both cold A/C and hot heat. The grey vinyl dash tucks nicely into the front of the cabin, and dual SRS and front airbags are standard for safety’s sake. Power windows, locks, and folding side mirrors work well in true Toyota fashion, with the rear glass butterflying out to the side to maximize natural ventilation. Rear heat is standard to make life easier for your friends and pets in the rear, and the headliner and carpet are in good shape and serve as a prime indicator this Prado was well cared for in a prior life. Overall, this cabin is not easy to scrutinize. The antenna no longer power retracts, and the door cards have some discoloration, but overall it was well cared for in a prior life, and even retains its original owner’s manual!
Mechanical Overview
The intercooled 1KZ-TE under the hood is worth its weight in gold, and with loads of good service performed here at the shop the next American owner should feel rest assured this bulletproof 3.0TD is ready for the road ahead. Our trained technicians have given this one the green light for the road ahead, starting with the installation of 2 new 12v batteries to aid ignition. A new alternator was installed to keep your accessories properly charged, and we replaced the fuel filter as standard procedure on all our Toyota diesels. After an oil and filter service, this one was ready to tackle its first stateside road test, and the 1KZ jets right up to highway speeds without issue. A smooth shifting automatic gearbox commands shifts, and power is send into a full time 4WD system, with active TRC to distribute additional traction where it’s needed most. The Bilstein 4600 series suspension is top tier and comfortable to plow through road imperfections large and small. We shored up the drivetrain with new front lower control arms, lower ball joints, and front swaybar links, and this Prado now starts, steers, and stops as it should. The ABS brakes bite with ferocity, and after mounting up 4 new 33″ Falken tires, we gave this J95 a fresh alignment, sure to maximize tire life and keep you tracking dead straight for miles to come!

CARB certifications will have to be performed within the state. Depending on the vehicle and any existing modifications will affect the pricing. Typically CARB compliance will range between 5-10K.
