Interior Overview

The cabin was clearly cared for in a prior life, and the Japanese owners added some neat upgrades and rare factory equipment. The dashboard is in wonderful shape and lacks any cracking or fading. Dual SRS airbags are standard for those riding in the two front seats. Front and center, an optional OEM Field Monitor displays information about the outside conditions to those within the cabin, should you lose cell service. The center stack is close by and within arm’s reach. A large Panasonic headunit looks modern and includes Bluetooth integration so you can stream all the tunes you like. Adjacent is a simple-to-use automatic climate control system. It pipes in cold A/C and piping hot heat, depending on what is required. If you prefer more natural ventilation, power windows are standard and function just as they should. To make daily use more enjoyable, the driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column, power folding mirrors, and power locks. The upholstery is in good shape and was clearly cared for overseas. The gray textured cloth lacks any major rips, stains, or tears, and head, shoulder, and legroom are abundant for all. The middle row slides forward to accommodate more cargo, and the rear jump seats can be conveniently stowed against the D-pillar. The headliner and carpet are in good nick, and the door cards have resisted major abuse over the years. Aside from a slightly damaged cup holder, there is little to complain about within the cockpit, and even an OEM trash receptacle is on hand, located in the passenger footwell.

Mechanical Overview

Built atop a 4Runner frame, parts are easy to source and cost next to nothing! The 5VZ-FE under the bonnet is one heck of a tough cookie, with American versions regularly logging a half million miles. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 3.4L chugs to life courtesy of a brand new battery. While on the lift, we swapped in some new spark plugs and installed a new fuel filter and engine air filter as part of our tune-up. A new set of accessory belts keeps your electronics properly powered, and we performed a coolant flush so that the quad cam mill maintains proper thermal efficiency. So that this Landy could hit the road immediately after its sale, we rehabbed the 5VZ with new valve cover gaskets and half moon seals. It feels healthy as a horse and is connected to a stout automatic gearbox. Shifts feel reassured, and this Cruiser is underpinned by a Full-Time 4WD system. Even better, the pilot can engage a low range and center locking differential should an off-road excursion be on the docket. Over the pavement, this SUV is an all-star. Its soft suspension is predictable yet insulated from the roadway. It hustles up to highway speeds without breaking a sweat and slows down promptly with standard disc brakes and ABS. To keep those stopping distances short, we chucked on a set of new front brake pads and rotors. The suspension also received a host of upgrades. New front lower control arms, rear lower shock bushings, and new front sway bar links and bushings were all taken care of. One of our trained techs also replaced the steering rack bushings for state inspection. Lastly, we wrapped the Weds in new 31″ Falken all-terrain rubber. These new tires look mean, quell road noise, and will last for tens of thousands of miles to come. Turn key and ready to roll, this lovely Land Cruiser just needs a new owner!
