Spacious, luxurious, capable, and cool, this collectible Japanese Classic is a reliable overlander worth every penny!

Exterior Overview

Late 90’s Land Cruisers are built like tanks, but don’t get it twisted, they offer up loads of luxury, too. This ’99 Cygnus model is a prime example of that, and is offered with a mere 92k verified and documented miles on the clock. Its powerful and refined V8 is barely broken in, and this Landy is fresh off a comprehensive service. Decked out with a one-off dual exhaust, 17″ Nomad wheels, LED tail lights, a stylish rear spoiler, and menacing privacy tint, this brute is easy on the eyes, as well. It also assumes a bad boy aesthetic on the road, thanks to fresh 33″ Falken rubber. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs the one-off Boron Black paint is in good nick and this J100 is just as comfortable at the local Cars & Caffeine as it is loafing across a sandy beach. Spacious, luxurious, capable, and cool, this collectible Japanese Classic is a reliable overlander worth every penny!

Interior Overview

We see plenty of Land Cruisers come through the shop, but none seem as highly spec’d as this one. Take the coolbox center console that chills beverages to keep you hydrated on your road trip, for example. This Cruiser also includes factory leather seats and the front captain’s chairs are heated. The material does have some typical wear but no major damage such as rips, stains, holes, or tears. The matching leather is mirrored in the door cards and center console, and it contrasts beautifully with the woodgrain interior trim. The dashboard features a clean design and integrated front SRS airbags. The textured plastic lacks any cracking or fading and the center stack is close by and within reach. The digital dual zone setup spews ice cold A/C or piping hot heat depending on what is required. For those who prefer more natural ventilation, a massive moonroof can be retracted and the power windows unfurled.  The massive infotainment screen is easy to operate and includes cd, tv and radio options. The sound quality is decent and this 100 series is better insulated from road noise than lesser downmarket SUVs.  The driver benefits from a telescoping power steering column and both front occupants have power adjustable seats. Power locks, and power-folding mirrors all work in typical Toyota fashion, making daily use enjoyable. The headliner and carpets are in good nick and aside from the tilt adjustment on the steering column not functioning, it’s really hard to nitpick this thing.

Mechanical Overview

Powered by one of Toyota’s best V8 engine designs, this Cruiser is simple to service and parts are readily available. As this 2UZ-FE was sold here in the US, those who value ease of ownership will love this powertrain. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 4.7L churns to life care of a new 12v battery. A new fuel filter and engine air filter promote proper fuel economy and performance and the 2UZ is linked to a stout automatic gearbox. Shifts are reassured, and despite the heavy curb weight, this thing sails up to highway speeds. If you want to log some interstate miles, an OEM cruise control system is on standby to give your right foot a rest. For low traction scenarios, the full-time 4WD setup has a low range and center locker that can be engaged. One of our trained techs gave the suspension a heavy refresh for its new American owner. New rear upper control arms, new inner and outer tie rods, and a new front-right upper ball joint were all replaced for VA state safety inspection. We didn’t stop there, and additionally, we rebuilt the steering rack and installed new boots and clamps. To ensure the brand-new 33″ Falken All-Terrains last as long as possible, a fresh alignment was performed. The ABS brakes slow down this heavyweight impressively well and the nicely insulated height adjustable suspension covers up large and small road imperfections alike. Turn key and ready to rock, its no wonder why we’re down with the Cygnus.
