Interior Overview

The cabin is ergonomic, spacious, and well-equipped. Upon entry, it’s clear the cabin was cared for, as the dashboard lacks any cracking or fading. Dual SRS airbags are standard equipment. too. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column to find the ideal seating position regardless of size. Occupants in the middle row have reclining rear seats that also split fold and tumble forward to create a large cargo area. Power folding mirrors, power locks, and power windows all work in typical Toyota fashion. The center stack is close by and within arm’s reach. The automatic climate system supplies cold A/C and piping hot heat through the cabin at will. Above, a more modern Kenwood radio pumps in tunes to supplement your commute. The blue and gray textured upholstery is in above average shape. The seating surfaces lack any major rips, stains or tears. The door cards feature the same material and are in equally good nick. The headliner and carpets have fared well over the past 25 years, and even the owner’s manuals and maintenance booklets are included with the purchase of this Prado. Really, it’s one of the nicest Prado cabins in recent memory, and we think the new owner will agree, as it also includes a desirable set of factory carpeted floor mats!

Mechanical Overview

The body-on-frame platform is robust and the same can be said for the quad cam V6 that sits under the hood. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 5VZ-FE churns to life with the twist of the key, courtesy of a new 12v battery. It sounds great, thanks to a brand new muffler and one of our trained techs replaced the weary old valve cover gaskets with new ones so the oil level stays topped up. The 3.4L makes good power and is mated to a stout automatic gearbox. It shifts like a champ and is connected to a selectable transfercase. For trips off the beaten path, a low range and center locker can be utilized to maximize traction. On the tarmac, it hustles up to highway merging speeds without breaking a sweat. The long wheelbase sorts out road imperfections well, and we have overhauled the suspension substantially. New rear shocks and rear upper and lower control arms were installed to keep things compliant. Up front, new lower ball joints, and lower control arms were replaced. A driver’s side inner tie rod and fresh alignment have worked wonders, and this truck tracks straight as an arrow. The power steering is light and easy to articulate and grip is handled by four new Falken tires. The new rubber quells road noise, looks mean, and will last for tens of thousands of miles to come!
