Interior Overview
Cabin access is made seamless thanks to functional power locks, and the ride height allows passengers to slide into the cockpit with ease. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading, and dual SRS airbags are equipped to add some peace of mind. The center stack is close by and includes a simple to use climate control system, with cold A/C and piping hot heat at the ready. Below, an OEM AddZest radio pumps out the tunes to supplement your commute. Power windows and power mirrors aid daily driving and work as they should. The seats are trimmed in tan cloth. The durable material lacks any major rips, stains, or tears, and is mirrored in the armrests. The door cards and headliner have avoided major damage over the past quarter century, and the rear seats fold down flat to add to cargo capacity when required. Aside from some light carpet stains and some wear on the steering wheel, the cabin condition is impressive, and this Jimny was clearly cared for in a life overseas. It even includes a spare key, and the original carpeted floor mats!
Mechanical Overview
Most importers sell these Jimnys with the 660cc engine. The problem is that parts are tough to find, and with a top speed of around 40mph, it basically renders this capable truck almost useless. The good news is that we only target the G13B powered cars. This 1.3L was sold stateside, so parts are easy to find and can be had for next to nothing. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 16v 1.3L churns to life care of a new 12V battery. A new engine air filter was installed to maximize the power output, and the four-banger is linked to a five-speed manual gearbox. Wringing out the engine is a blast, and shifts are communicative and lack any grinds. The pilot can select whether to throw power to the rear or engage both axles with the selectable transfercase. For trips off the beaten path, a low range can be engaged, too, keeping momentum chugging forward. It gets up to merging speeds easily and also slows down confidently, thanks to its ABS brakes. We have given the suspension a heavy refresh, and one of our trained techs has installed new shocks at each corner. Freshly aligned it tracks straight as an arrow, and the power steering is light and easy to articulate. The turning radius is tight and tidy, and grip is handled by four nearly new Yokohama Geolandar tires. This unique and compact 4×4 needs nothing, and after one drive, you’ll see why this is such an unstoppable platform!
