Larger than a Hilux Surf, yet smaller than a big brooding Land Cruiser, Toyota's 90 Series Prado is a terrific midsized SUV that still grants the benefits of full time 4WD, easy to service mechanicals, and copious interior space. Based on the 3rd generation 4Runner platform, it's built to last too, and our 1998 J95 is a stunner in Crystal Silver Pearl (1C1) over Bravado Black two-tone, set off by front EGR rainguards, round headlamps and multicolor fog lamps. With Aiba Works front and rear skidplates, and 18" late model Lexus alloys completing the aesthetic, it looks the part too, and shows nicely outside of a few dings and spots of fade in the clearcoat. Backed by a durable V6 drivetrain and boasting only 71k miles from day to day use, it was clearly well cared for in a prior life and is primed and ready to serve a lucky stateside purchaser. Comfortable, stylish, and capable both on and off the beaten path, we can't get enough of these 90 series cruisers!

The interior is spacious, comfortable, easy to navigate, and most importantly clean! The multicolored cloth upholstery has withstood the past 26 years on the road without succumbing to any major rips, stains, and tears apart from the door cards and the carpet and headliner are tidy too. Dual SRS airbags tuck nicely into a matching vinyl dash, and the driver gains access to a tilt-adjustable steering column for optimal comfort behind the wheel. The center stack is trimmed in a faux woodgrain which works surprisingly well on the factory interior lines. Nestled next to the functional Kenwood touchscreen audio, automatic climate control works like a charm and can funnel cold A/C and hot heat all the way back to the rear of the cabin, thanks to nifty dual zone functionality. An OEM digital field monitor is mounted centrally and displays some valuable outdoor conditions to those in the know. Power windows, locks, and electric folding side mirrors make daily driving a breeze, and a power moonroof is easy to slide open if you prefer natural ventilation. The rear bench tumbles forward to create a bevy of cargo space in the rear and it reclines too if you need to hop in the back to catch a quick snooze. With more head and legroom than a 4Runner, backed by the same Toyota build quality you know and love, this cabin is nearly perfect. Even the OEM optional armrest extension is in great shape!

Toyota enthusiasts rejoice, this J95 Prado shares its bones with the 3rd generation 4Runner V6, and the 5VZ-FE still proves to be the go-to gasoline choice for power, refinement, and ease of stateside service! This hearty 6-pot cranks to life care of a new 12v battery and idles smooth and confident. We've brought this fantastic 90 series up to date with basic maintenance and new valve cover gaskets were installed to ensure your lubricant from the fresh oil and filter service stays internal. A new thermostat keeps things cool, and fresh spark plugs were dropped in alongside a new engine air filter and fuel filter to ensure this 3.4 runs butter smooth, all the way up to redline! The upgraded Bilstein suspension gobbles up road imperfections with force, and we replaced the upper ball joint on the front left and a new wheel bearing on the same side to keep the drivetrain in compliance. New pads and rotors up front help this Prado stop on a dime, every time! The automatic transmission shifts smoothly and this 90 series cruises nicely, even at higher speeds. Full-time 4WD is at the ready, and a locking center differential is available for any less-than-ideal terrain. Brand new 33" all terrains aid grip even more! That's not to say the mechanicals are perfect and we wanted to note the rear locker is nonfunctional. Still, if you're looking for a well-serviced Japanese Classic with a laundry list of top-tier parts and maintenance included, this is one poised Prado sure to please even the pickiest of pilots!
