Exterior Overview
Land Cruisers are beloved because of their unstoppable nature. This 1998 is a tank, with its bulletproof V8 and Full-Time 4WD underpinnings. Finished in a classic White Pearl Mica (057) over Nardo Gray (LY7C), this VX Limited is set off by brand new TRD style alloys, wide fender flairs, OEM chrome tail light and license plate garnish, an optional front bumper lip, and an integrated factory electric winch. It also boasts a few functional upgrades as well, like a rear ladder, tow receiver, OEM rainguards, OEM spare tire swingarm, and a front bug deflector. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs, the body is in good shape and this trusty rig is fresh off a recent service. Offered with only 108k verified and documented miles on the clock, this safe and spacious Toyota is barely broken in. This hauler would make for a tremendous daily driver, year-round family sled, or dedicated overland rig, boasting its prized third row and tons of luxury appointments and rare options. Easy to service and more capable than almost anything else on the road, it’s appropriate to refer to the J100 as a Japanese Classic!
Interior Overview
The 100 series is one of our largest and most premium vehicles, which is a huge selling point. The cabin is expansive and nicely equipped. The driver can find the ideal driving position thanks to a tilt adjustable steering column, affixed to an optional woodgrain wheel. Power windows, electric door locks and power folding mirrors all work in typical Toyota fashion and make daily use more enjoyable. Within arms reach is a touchscreen that controls the automatic climate control system. The heat pipes through the vents with some intensity, complementing the heated front seats during winter. For summer you can pop on the A/C or retract the sunroof for a natural breeze. The OEM audio works like a charm, and the interface is surprisingly intuitive for being 25 years old. Dual SRS airbags are standard up front, and the dashboard lacks any cracking or fading. Additional storage up front comes from a massive center console and sizable glovebox. This Landy has a trick or two up its sleeve, and includes an optional cool box beverage chiller mounted between the driver and passenger. The driver can also actuate the headlight cleaners to blast off some mud and bugs improving headlight illumination. The tan cloth upholstery is in above average shape. The material is soft to the touch and lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. For those looking to tow around a full squad, it’s nice to see the factory third row was optioned in Japan, and can be easily deployed to increase cargo capacity. The door cards, headliner and carpets are all in fine shape having resisted major wear and tear over the years, and aside from some cracks on the woodgrain, it’s difficult to find anything worth complaining about. Even the OEM winch controller is operation and stowed in the glovebox!
Mechanical Overview
Overbuilt, these tough Land Cruisers have a reputation for withstanding loads of abuse. The 2UZ-FE is known for the same thing! Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 4.7 whirrs to life care of a new 12v battery. It sounds great with its throaty tone, and the Ganador twice-pipes are expensive and rare. A new fuel filter works to keep unwanted contaminants out of the engine and the powerplant is linked to a stout automatic gearbox. Shifs feel reassured and torque is fed to both axles. For off road escapades, a low range and center locker can be engaged to keep momentum moving forward. To slow down, ABS brakes confidently slow down this big bad girl as we installed new front brake pads. We heavily refreshed this J100’s suspension while it was up on our lift. One of our trained techs replaced the rear upper and lower control arms to keep things safe. For state inspection new front sway bar links, inner and outer tie rods, and rear sway bar bushings were replaced for good measure. A fresh alignment ensures that this Toyota tracks straight as an arrow and the brand new Falken 33″ all-terrain tires wear properly. Turn key and ready to roll, this special Cruiser is a surefire bet!
