Exterior Overview
The J100 Land Cruiser is an unkillable model. It can handle loads of abuse, is inexpensive to service, and highly capable. This 1998 is also refined, and has room for eight, with its optional third-row seats. Finished in Toyota’s lovely White Pearl Mica (057), this VX Limited is adorned with OEM rainguards, an optional spare tire swingarm, new 17″ Icon alloys, and rear privacy tint. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs the paint is in good shape, and this truck is fresh off a recent service. Powered by the same bulletproof 4.7L V8 sold Stateside, this Landy boasts a mere 67k verified and documented miles on the clock. Ideal as a year round family hauler or brash beach cruiser, this terrific Toyota does just about everything well. Collectible, practical, and in much better shape than American units, this Japanese Classic won’t last long!
Interior Overview
The cabin is in impressive condition and comes nicely optioned. Access is made more seamless thanks to a functional keyless entry system. The driver can find the ideal seating position with a tilt-adjustable steering wheel and seat-mounted adjustable lumbar support. To make daily use more enjoyable, cruise control, power windows, power locks, and electric mirrors all work like a charm. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading, and dual SRS front airbags are standard equipment. The climate controls are part of the touchscreen and allow for the cabin temperature to be quickly adjusted. Cold A/C and piping hot heat are both on standby, so winter and summer feel manageable. A large power moonroof can unfurl for more natural ventilation. The OEM audio functions well, and sounds clear for a vehicle of this vintage. The seats are in above-average shape and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. Both front captains’ chairs are heated ,too. The tan material is also durable and is found in the door cards as accent trim. The headliner and carpets are in fine shape, and as a whole, it’s clear this cabin has been cared for in a prior life. Aside from the power-folding mirror function giving up the ghost, it’s hard to critique the cabin. We even have the owner’s manuals and maintenance booklets on hand, safely stowed in the glovebox.
Mechanical Overview
Under the skin, this is one tough cookie. The same can be said for the 2UZ-FE, which is an utter workhorse. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the V8 churns to life care of a new 12v battery. A new fuel filter keeps unwanted contaminants out of the powerplant. The 2UZ pulls hard to redline and sends power through a stout automatic gearbox. The automatic makes good use of the torque and sends it though a Full-Time 4WD system. A center locker and low range can be engaged should some off-roading be in order. The ABS brakes feel confident and slow down this sizable rig with ease. The suspension was refreshed with new front sway bar links, rear upper control arms, and new front axles. The ride is insulated from the road and is soft. We did want to note, however, that the ride height adjustment no longer works. The power steering is light yet on point, and we have freshly aligned this Land Cruiser to promote long tire life. Speaking of which, brand new 33″ Falken all-terrain tires have been mounted and balanced at each corner. Turn key and ready to rock, this tough, low-mileage Land Cruiser is ready to roll!
