This 1998 JZX100 Chaser has all the good stuff, a proper rear wheel drive layout, eye-catching TRD cosmetics, and the same top-tier build quality you've come to expect from the brand.

Exterior Overview

Ask any enthusiast, Toyota had a proper TRD sport sedan long before the Camry and Avalon! This 1998 JZX100 Chaser has all the good stuff, including a proper rear wheel drive layout, eye-catching cosmetics, and the same top-tier build quality you’ve come to expect from the brand. Finished in Super White (040), this TRD sports edition boasts full factory optional aero, including TRD Sports front and rear bumpers, fog lamps, side skirts, and the coolest adjustable factory rear spoiler this side of the Pacific. It also benefits from some nifty factory upgrades, like sought after one piece rainguards and OEM Xenon headlamps. PIAA wheels look great against the white paintwork and aftermarket coilovers eliminate any pesky fender gap. The 98k miles on the clock are also verified and documented, and do a lot to help protect your investment. The X100 is beloved for its prowess on the street and circuit, and with only a few chips and dings from daily use, it’s bound to turn heads at your local Cars & Coffee too. A fan favorite model with a bevy of rare and desirable OEM equipment, this is a Japanese Classic like no other!

Interior Overview

Toyota nailed the JZX100 Chaser’s interior. It’s fashioned in premium materials, ergonomic, and is packed with all the power equipment needed to make daily driving a walk in the park. Typically plagued by distortion and other UV damage, the dash cover is in good shape overall and is soft to the touch. The center stack is trimmed in a trademark faux carbon, which appears in good shape save for some light fading and separation from 25 years of use. The center stack frames OEM audio, and an adjacent automatic digital climate control display is easy to navigate, with cold A/C and hot heat close behind. The driver gains a tilt and telescoping steering wheel to maximize comfort, and dual front and side SRS airbags are present to give the front occupants additional peace of mind. Power windows, locks, and mirrors all work as designed in true Toyota fashion. The materials in the cabin are premium through and through. The leather wrapped MOMO steering wheel feels nice in the palms of your hands, and the seats are upholstered in a plush patterned cloth. Save for some wear to the driver’s outer seat bolster, the remaining fabric offers up little to complain about. The rear bench is spacious, and the trunk is larger than you’d think, if you need to stow additional luggage on a road trip. The headliner is tight and tidy, as are the carpets. Since no 25 year old cabin is perfect, we wanted to note the shift knob has shed its leather wrapping, and the passenger mirror no longer power folds. Still, we think the cabin is in excellent condition and the next owner is bound to agree.

Mechanical Overview

The 1JZ-GE under the bonnet is a durable, reliable, and fuel-sipping powerplant. On a 25 year old JZ, maintenance is key, including tending to any pesky oil leaks. We installed new cam seals, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, and half moon seals, and went ahead and took care of a new timing belt and water pump service while we were knee deep in this 2.5l. A new A/C compressor keeps the freon pumping, and a new serpentine belt drives your accessories reliably. The JZ cranks over with haste, care of a new 12v battery, and we took care of a fresh oil and filter service to get you on track for the road ahead. With the maintenance performed, the 1J jets up to highway speeds with haste, with an OEM 3″ TRD exhaust unlocking some extra performance and sound. Power is sent to an automatic gearbox, which is built like a tank and pleasantly responsive as it hammers through the tree. We resealed the transmission pan so your lubricant stays internal, and the rear wheels have no issue putting the power to the ground. New coilovers were installed and aid aesthetics and handling, and we changed out the front caster arms to make this Chaser compliant with state safety inspection. The power steering is light and direct, and we bolstered the ABS system with new pads and rotors up front, a valuable service as JZX100 brakes are chassis-specific! The last line of defense between you and the pavement, we wrapped the 18’s in fresh tires, and performed a four wheel alignment. This Chaser tracks dead straight, and is primed and ready for daily duty under our more demanding stateside driving conditions.
