Timeless styling, reliable and smooth powertrains, and upmarket cabins were all hallmarks of the S160 Aristo and our 1998 is one heck of a clean example.

Exterior Overview

The JZS160 Aristo is one of Toyota’s most enduring designs. Timeless styling, reliable and smooth powertrains, and upmarket cabins were all hallmarks of this model and our 1998 is one heck of a clean example. Finished in Diamond White (051), this lowered sedan is set off by LED tail lights, an FRP front bumper, color-matched OEM rainguards, privacy tint, OEM optional side skirts and rear lip, TRD exhaust, and WedsSport SA-25R 18″ alloys. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs the paint is in good shape and this Vertex edition is fresh off a comprehensive service, including a new timing belt and water pump. Offered with only 118k verified and documented miles on the clock, this Toyota has a fraction of the miles of most USDM GS300s. Perfect for a use as a daily driver, this sexy saloon is practical, safe, and inexpensive to operate. Japanese Classics like this normally break the bank, but this unique and affordable cruiser is an incredible overall value!

Interior Overview

The Aristo has a modern cabin with tons of factory options and some decent safety equipment. Cabin access is made more efficient with OEM keyless entry, as this sedan locks and unlocks with a press of the fob. The driver benefits from an electric adjustable steering column, and functional power locks, power-folding mirrors, and electric windows. These all work in typical Toyota fashion, as does the OEM JBL audio with upgraded aftermarket Alpine tweeters, making daily use more enjoyable. Both front occupants can rest assured knowing dual SRS front and side airbags are equipped, and traction control is standard. Even nighttime driving is improved with more light coming from aftermarket projection HID headlamps. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading and is accented by a black wood veneer that is mirrored in on an aftermarket steering wheel. The digital dual-zone climate control is intuitive to use and blasts cold air conditioning and piping hot heat. If you prefer more natural ventilation the optional power sunroof retracts for additional airflow. The optional gray sport cloth seats are in above-average condition and are soft to the touch. They lack any major rips stains or tears and both front seats are power adjustable. If you set the cruise control for a long road trip, rest assured these seats are comfortable, no matter which one you are in! The door cards, headliner, and carpets are in good shape and overall this interior is one of the nicer Aristo cabins we have seen in recent memory.

Mechanical Overview

The chassis is refined, composed, and sturdy. The rear-drive architecture lends itself to proper balance under braking and cornering, and the engine is an absolute gem. The 2JZ-GE is loved for its almost vibration-free operation and bulletproof reliability. The six cranks over immediately thanks to a new 12v battery and is fresh off an oil and filter service. It sounds great thanks to a pricey TRD polished dual exhaust, that frees up a few ponies. A new intake air filter helps the 2J engine to breathe freely, and a set of new spark plugs works to efficiently atomize unburnt fuel. One of our trained techs addressed several pesky oil leaks. The valve cover gaskets were replaced, as were the cam and crank seals. The oil pan was resealed, too, and while we were in there, we took care of the most expensive maintenance item there is, the timing belt and water pump service. These new units will save the new owner plenty of money down the road as won’t need changing for another ten years or 100k miles. The refreshed 2997cc engine is linked to a smooth shifting and sturdy automatic gearbox. A new transmission seal and fluid flush ensure its seamless operation and it sends power to the rear wheels, as its should, in any proper luxury barge. Acceleration is impressive for a naturally aspirated model and sustained highway cruising is effortless. The suspension insulates the cabin from large and small road imperfections, and new caster arm bushings and front lower ball joints were installed for state inspection. A fresh alignment will prolong the life of the four new tires we mounted and balanced and the power steering is light, and on point. The ABS brakes slow down this five-seater without breaking a sweat. New front brake pads and rotors and new rear brake pads add some peace of mind for those traveling at highway speeds or within the confines of a busy city. The turn radius is tidy and the Aristo is easy to park, even on smaller urban streets. Fully reconditioned and turn key ready to rock, this stunning JZS160 is one of the best we have ever seen, and we think the new owner will agree
