Exterior Overview
The Skyline is an enthusiast’s favorite model, and recognizable even to non-gearheads. That being said, this 1998 R34 GTT is a head turning coupe regardless, and it’s quite the driver too, with a potent turbocharged engine and responsive manual box. Finished in Sonic Silver (KR4) and set off by OEM optional Altia aero, a FRP hood and spoiler, and factory xenon headlamps, the aesthetics show well save for a few light paint imperfections. Rolling on 18″ Enkei TS6 wheels, this coupe has an aggressive stance to boot, with CST coilovers providing a sufficient chassis drop. Best of all, this 34 has 90k verified and documented miles on the ticker, which should do a lot to protect your investment. Prominent in the press, on the circuit, and now on stateside streets, the R34 has a lot of staying power, and is a textbook Japanese Classic!
Interior Overview
Fully reworked from the R33 that preceded it, the R34’s cockpit feels primed and ready for the 21st century, as it’s bolstered with power amenities, several safety and performance upgrades, and modern feeling upholstery. Sport mesh cloth was all the rage in the early aughts and these are in great shape overall, resisting any major stains or bolster wear that typically plagues the stock seating surfaces. The driver unit was replaced by a Recaro bucket, which keeps the pilot from sloshing about the cabin, The dash is tidy too, and a passenger SRS airbag is on hand to keep your copilot safe on the road. The factory steering wheel has been ditched in favor of a sleeker Italvolante Imola unit, which feels nice in the palms of your hands, and is mated to a tilt-adjustable steering column. For the performance-oriented driver, a triple gauge suite is present in the center stack and Racetech displays monitor your boost pressure, oil pressure, and oil temperature and an Apex’i SAFC its mounted below the center stack. Adjacent to that readout, a digital automatic climate control unit is easy to operate and doles out cold A/C and hot heat on command. An Eclipse audio system also sounds crisp and clear, and has AUX input for playing your own tunes. Power windows, locks, and power folding mirrors assist day-to-day use, and work like a charm. The trunk is plenty spacious if you need to run errands, and overall the condition should impress most picky enthusiasts! Even the pricey OEM carpet mats are included with the purchase, too.
Mechanical Overview
There’s no denying the R34’s prominence on the big screen, but true enthusiasts know it’s the drivetrain that makes this GTT truly special. Bolstered with NEO VVL technology, the RB25DET under the bonnet is a riot to drive, and this model boasts some choice performance modification to boot. Better yet, it’s fresh off a recent service here at the shop, where a new 12v battery was installed to aid ignition. A fresh oil and filter service was performed, as we do with all of our imports. We also took care of one of the most expensive preventative services, and a new timing belt and water pump were installed to get you on track for the next 10 years or 100,000 kilometers. A fresh fuel filter and thermostat keep this RB running tip top, and with the maintenance performed it’s a hoot to drive around town or blast down the freeway. An HKS intercooler keeps your charged air cool, and this I-6 sings through a HKS Hi Power catback. Shifts are handled by a proper 5 speed manual gearbox, and power is sent swiftly to the rear. CST adjustable suspension manages handling and keeps the chassis planted in the twisties, and we installed all new inner and outer hicas arms in the rear so the rear steering functions good as new. The ABS brakes bite with ferocity, and for an aggressively styled Skyline, it’s surprisingly easy to maneuver about town and drive on a daily commute. To assist traction, comfort, and overall style, we wrapped the Enkeis in fresh Falken rubber, sure to last for tens of thousands of miles after our fresh alignment!
