Exterior Overview
Adding a couple of rugrats to the pack doesn’t mean you need to compromise on vehicular enjoyment. For family men and women who lusted over the R34 Skyline GTR, or the discerning enthusiast who needs to maximize utility, this 1998 Stagea is the best of both worlds. It has a potent turbocharged inline-six mated to a manual transmission, it’s all-wheel drive, and it’s set off by an R34 GTR front-end conversion, with stunning 260RS style aero! Finished in Silica Brass (EY0), this dashing estate is further set off by an FRP front grille, OEM optional rear wing, and 5Zigen fireball RR wheels to give this fast wagon a flush fitment. Better yet, the 82k miles on the clock are verified and documented, which should appeal to any Nissan nut. Far more than a grocery getter, this Stagea impresses with its long list of modifications and head-turning looks. This might just be our ultimate Japanese Classic hauler!
Interior Overview
Fun, functional, and well-maintained from a prior life, the interior is a great place to be for pilots and passengers alike. The driver is pampered for performance, with a Recaro bucket seat replacing the cumbersome stock unit, and a MOMO steering wheel feels great in the palms of your hands. Passengers fret not, a functional airbag is still on hand, and there’s ample head and legroom for your rearmost occupants too. The dash is trimmed in black vinyl and is free of unwanted cracking or fading. It’s also intuitively designed, down to the center stack which houses digital automatic climate control and USDM Bluetooth BOSS audio. The A/C is ripe and ready for summer cruises, and hot heat is on tap as you tackle all seasons in this AWD warrior. Power windows, locks, and electric folding side mirrors work at the push of a button, and an optional power moonroof is handy to funnel ventilation throughout the cabin. This Stagea is highlighted by its expansive cargo hold, which gets even bigger if you fold the rear seats down. You’ll also be able to run to and from IKEA with haste, unlike your mother’s Volvo 240. The headliner is clean, and your carpets are protected by some plush carpet mats. Save for a nonoperational front sunroof, it’s hard to complain about this killer cockpit!
Mechanical Overview
The Stagea is known for its killer drivetrain options, and the RB25DET NEO under the bonnet is no exception. Ours is also bolstered with some pricey aftermarket upgrades, and some basic service to keep you covered for the road ahead. It cranks over with haste, and settles into a smooth idle thanks to a fresh oil and filter service. Auditory stimulus is abundant, and an HPI intercooler, HKS exhaust, and Greddy blow-off valve sound great in tandem. This RB roars up to highway speeds quickly, as you’d expect, and a 5-speed gearbox throws power to all four wheels with haste. Cusco coilovers keep the chassis planted and despite being a larger vehicle, we’d describe this wagon as nimble. R32 front calipers stop this Stagea on a dime and the rear brakes feature new rotors and pads. The power steering is direct and overall the chassis is predictable. Further assisting traction and overall comfort, we wrapped the 5Zigens in fresh all-season rubber. Ideal for all road conditions, they should deliver reliable grip for tens of thousands of miles to come!
