Nissan absolutely killed it with the R34. The iconic styling, a firebreathing turbo inline six, and balanced chassis all work in perfect harmony.

Exterior Overview

Nissan absolutely killed it with the R34. The iconic styling, a firebreathing turbo inline six, and balanced chassis all work in perfect harmony. This Bayside Blue (TV2) 1998 is an incredible example, and is set off by FRP GT-R style aero, privacy tint, color-matched eyelids, aftermarket rainguards, a pricey Nismo exhaust, and 17″ Advan Siena mesh wheels. We wanted to note the trunk was replaced in Japan, and a few light chips and dings are present, but aside from that this sedan is hard to fault. Offered with only 59k verified and documented miles, this recently serviced GT-X is fresh as a daisy. Rewarding to drive and easy to maintain, this platform is more practical than you might expect! Perfect as a unique and sporty daily driver, this Skyline can pull double duty at the Cars And Coffee or the nearest road course. Reliable, fun, and collectible, it’s hard to deny this Japanese Classics greatness!

Interior Overview

The R34 feels like a modern car from within the cabin. Unlike earlier versions of the car, this dashboard doesn’t suffer from the bubbles or distortion from years past. Dual SRS airbags protect those up front in the event of an accident and ABS brakes are standard equipment. The driver can access the cabin easily care of functional keyless entry. A Recaro seat keeps the pilot from sloshing around in the twisties and an adjustable steering column can be utilized to dial in the perfect seating position. A large aftermarket shift knob feels perfect in the palm of your left hand. A gauge suite is mounted atop the dash to relay engine vitals to the driver, and located below is the digital automatic climate system. Heat and A/C can be easily controlled and a touchscreen Pioneer head unit pipes in the tunes. Bluetooth technology allows the driver to keep their hands on the wheel and the sound quality is decent for a vehicle of this age. For nighttime driving, electric adjustable xenon headlights illuminate the road ahead. Power folding mirrors, electric locks, and power windows all work in typical Nissan fashion and make daily use more enjoyable. The door cards match the sport-cloth seats and both lack any major imperfections. The carpets are in good shape and the headliner sits taut against the roof and lacks any major damage. Aside from wear on the interior plastics and steering wheel, a nonfunctional boost gauge, and exposed rear speakers, it’s really hard to complain about the cabin.

Mechanical Overview

Nissan’s secret sauce isn’t such a secret perhaps. This coupe’s wonderful driving dynamics are bolstered by near 50/50 weight distribution, rear-drive, and a powerful inline six. The RB25DET NEO is a killer powerplant, and ours is fresh off an oil and filter service. It runs smooth as butter and sounds incredible thanks to a NISMO catback and HKS intake. A set of accessory belts keeps under-hood squeals to a minimum and will keep the electronics properly powered. A new 12v battery coaxes the 2.5L to life and a new engine air filter and fuel filter have been installed when it was on the lift. Best of all, one of our trained techs has replaced the timing belt and water pump with new units. This service will save the new American owner some good coin and adds some peace of mind when heading out on your first road trip. When the timing belt service is performed we always flush the coolant and install a new thermostat while were in there. We addressed a pesky valve cover leak by replacing the gaskets and threw in six new spark plugs for good measure. The RB runs tip-top with NEO VVL technology and pulls hard to redline. It’s connected to a five-speed manual gearbox that was swapped in overseas. It shifts properly and the feels direct and communicative. Power is funneled to the rear wheels and if too much throttle is applied, you might just lay down some rubber! Acceleration is impressive, as is braking, which has been improved with new front brake pads and resurfaced brake rotors. The suspension was also refreshed stateside. New adjustable coilovers and new caster arms dial in the handling and a fresh alignment was performed to promote long tire life. The 17″ wheels come with freshly mounted Falken tires. The new rubber will last for tens of thousands of miles to come and quell road noise a fair bit. Turn key and ready to rock, this sedan is the real deal!
