Admittedly the Surf is our best volume seller, but this one has caught our collective eye for a number of reasons. A lifted 4x4 like this 1998 Hilux Surf has some serious curb appeal, and enthusiasts will love its manual gearbox, too! Finished in a classic Millennium Silver (K73), this SSR-X is set off by a set of OEM refinished alloys, a Satsoshi-style grill, HIC bug deflector, LED tail lights, and some aggressive privacy tint. Aside from a few scuffs, chips, and dings, the paint is in good shape and this rig is fresh off a recent service here in the shop. Offered with only 156k verified and documented miles, this Surf would make for a wonderful weekend wheeler, dependable daily driver, or gorgeous grocery getter. Easy to service, dependable, and capable this Japanese Classic is a bonafide dream to drive and is practical, too!

The cabin is spacious, simple, and comes nicely equipped. Both front occupants benefit from dual SRS airbags and the driver can find the ideal driving position thanks to an adjustable steering column and adjustable lumbar support. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading and a redesigned center stack includes a fully digital climate system. On demand hot heat and cold A/C can be mixed through the cabin, which is ideal for year round use. Below a functional Kenwood headunit modernizes the cabin, and delivers a clean and crisp soundtrack to improve your commute. The seats are trimmed in a durable tan cloth. They lack any major rips, stains, or tears and are comfy on longer hauls. The middle row can tumble forward to create a large, flat loading floor and they also 4 way recline. The headliner and door cards are in good nick, and aside from some light carpet staining, it's hard to complain about the cabin.

This tough Toyota is powered by the same four-cylinder gasoline powerplant as our domestic 4Runner, making parts and service simple as pie. The 3RZ-FE cranks to life with the twist of a key thanks to a new 12v battery, and is fresh off an oil and filter service. It sounds throatier than stock thanks to a stylish set of polished Heritage dual exhaust pipes, and they deliver some serious visual appeal. One of our trained techs rehabbed the engine by resealing the oil pan and the chain-driven 2.7L breathes freely thanks to a new air intake filter. It feels healthy as a horse, pulling strong to redline. The dual overhead cam mill is linked to a five-speed manual gearbox. Rowing up and down the gears is a blast and the transmission lacks any hitches or grinds. It's linked to a selective transfercase that allows the pilot to shift between 2WD and 4WD on the fly.  For off-road excursions, a low range and optional center locker can also be engaged to keep momentum trudging forward The front output shaft had a tiny leak that we attended to by replacing the seal, and the driveline is right as rain now!  Acceleration around town is peppy and the Hilux can sustain highway speeds without breaking a sweat. The suspension is predictable and offers loads of ground clearance. The power steering is light and direct and the Surf goes straight as an arrow thanks to a fresh alignment. The 16's are wrapped in new all terrain Falken rubber at each corner. The 33's look mean and most importantly will last for tens of thousands of miles to come. Turn key and ready to rock, this trusty Toyota is about as good as it gets!
