This 1997 HiAce is one of those cool custom cruisers with oodles of space and loads of features and amenities. Finished in a Light Green Metallic over Evergreen two-tone (2AY), this hauler is set off by a set of 16" alloys, OEM rainguards, and a retro-themed graphics package. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs associated with normal use, this recently serviced van is no worse for the wear, and boasts a mere 87k verified and documented miles. Packing a punchy and reliable turbodiesel powerplant, this rear-drive transporter is more refined than many luxury vehicles and far more practical. As a weekend ride, daily driver, or family hauler, this Super Custom is the essence of a Japanese Classic.

This cabover design has several benefits. Premium outward visibility and a tight turn radius are ideal for those living in the confines of a busy metropolitan area. The tall ride height allows the driver to see far above traffic and the dashboard lacks any major imperfections other than a few screw holes on the passenger side from a Japanese nav mount. Dual SRS airbags are on standby for those who are safety conscious. The driver receives an adjustable steering column to find the ideal driving position, and electric windows and locks all function properly making daily use more enjoyable. It also has functional power side mirrors, but we did want to note the power fold function has given up the ghost. Dual zone heat and A/C are ideal for road trips any season of the year, and an Eclipse head unit is good for blasting the radio and cassette tapes. The gray upholstery is soft to the touch and lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. The middle row can be swiveled to face the rear and also lies flat to combine with the rear bench into a sleeping platform. Headroom is expansive and the headliner is in good shape, lacking any sagging or blemishes. The same can be said for the door cards and carpets which have resisted major abuse over the years. Even the owner's manual, and the OEM carpet mats are still on hand to protect against future spills and stains. The factory linen curtains have survived as well!

Toyota built some of its best designs during the mid-1990s and the HiAce is a killer example of the brand's commitment to top-tier durability. The heart of this beast is the 1KZ-TE turbodiesel. A legendary motor in its own right, this one is fresh off an oil and filter service. A new 12v battery aids ignition, and a new fuel filter works to keep unwanted contaminants at bay. The 3.0L is linked to a smooth-shifting automatic gearbox. This is one of the faster vans we sell and stoplight-to-stoplight you'll be laying waste to Astros and Windstars alike. It's also uber comfortable on the highway and the long wheelbase sorts through road imperfections. Overall the ride is stable, yet easy to maneuver thanks to light power steering. The front upper ball joints were replaced here in our shop and new all-season Falken tires were mounted and balanced for good measure. The brakes are tight and tidy, and the new tires reduce road noise a fair bit.
