Interior Overview
The cabin was thoughtfully designed and features loads of electric amenities. The driver and passenger enjoy dual power seats with integrated side airbags. They are also heated! For those who want a bit more opulence, even the seat belt adjusters are powered, which admittedly, is a bit over the top. So is the optional air purifier, which can be set with a quick twist of a control wheel. For the pilot, an electric tilt and telescoping steering column helps to dial in the most comfortable driving position. Front airbags are also standard, adding some peace of mind for those who may be safety-conscious, and the dashboard lacks any cracking or fading. Most Celsiors were spec’d with cloth seats, but this one has the rare and desirable leather option. Aside from the normal age-induced cracking, the cowhides lack any major rips, stains, or tears, and the matching material is mirrored on the door cards. To make daily driving more enjoyable, power mirrors, power locks, and power mirrors all work in typical Toyota fashion. The OEM audio can be dialed in to fill the cabin with tunes, and finding the optimal temperature is easy as pie, thanks to a simple-to-use automatic digital dual zone climate control system. The headliner is in good shape, as are the carpets, and aside from a non-functional power fold feature on the side mirrors, everything is in good working order, and it’s clear this cockpit was cared for in a prior life overseas.
Mechanical Overview
Under the hood, Toyota updated the driveline quite a bit for this iteration. In fact, aside from VVT-i being added, an additional cog was added to the gearbox too, which improved fuel economy and straight-line performance. A new set of hood shocks makes opening the bonnet a snap. The 4.0L churns to life care of a new 12V battery and is fresh off an oil and filter service. A new fuel filter and engine air filter ensure the 1UZ-FE runs like a top, and new valve cover gaskets keep the oil level full. The V8 runs with little to no vibration thanks to a set of eight fresh spark plugs, and it is as quiet as a church mouse at idle. Best of all, a new timing belt and water pump service was performed. Complete with a coolant flush and new thermostat, this expensive preventative maintenance will save the new owner some serious coin and is good for ten years and 100k kilometers. It’s mated to a stout automatic gearbox. Power is fed to the rear wheels, and acceleration is effortless. The long wheelbase distributes bumps pleasantly, and the ABS brakes clamp down hard courtesy of new rear pads and rotors, stopping this heavyweight sedan abruptly. New coilovers reduce fender gap and can be tuned to your preference. New front caster arm bushings were added before a fresh alignment. The power steering is feather-light and on point, and this five-seater tracks straight as an arrow. The Crimson alloys are wrapped in new Falken rubber. Mounted and balanced here in the shop, the new tires will last for tens of thousands of miles to come and reduce road noise and vibration. Turn key and ready to rock, this VIP sled can be yours today!
