This 1997 Hilux Surf offers up a solution for just about any prospective truck purchaser at our dealership. It looks good, is easy to service, and has a whole lot of good maintenance performed here in-house. Coming in at a mere 141k verified/documented miles, it's traveled a fraction of what our stateside examples typically have. Finished in Natural White (057) this Surf is set off by two-tone body cladding, a 3-inch lift, a tasteful factory rear spoiler, and rainguards. Rolling on aftermarket 16" alloys wrapped in meaty all-terrains, this one has looks that kill and is ready to do some serious duty stateside, but it's worth mentioning the hatch was previously replaced in Japan. Easy to drive, inexpensive to maintain, and drool over, this Japanese Classic checks all the boxes!
The interior is clean, simple, and has just about every amenity you'd need to make daily driving a walk in the park. Upholstered in a durable tan cloth, the seats have withstood the last couple of decades on the road with no major battle scars outside of some minor holes and bolster wear on the driver's bucket. The rest of the upholstery shows well, from the headliner to the carpets beneath. The dash has resisted any serious wear and tear and houses standard dual SRS airbags, a worthy feature for any safety-conscious occupants. Positioned beneath, the automatic climate control works in a pinch and pumps out cold A/C or hot heat as requested. Adjacent to the HVAC lies a functional touch screen Carrozzeria headunit. While a bit dated, the sound quality is above average and the unit even comes pre-loaded with Japanese tunes and DVD's to keep your passengers occupied on the road. Adjustable lumbar support and a tilt steering column help the driver get comfortable behind the wheel, and a factory field monitor is a nifty bonus for any aspiring off-roaders or overlanders. While the display is in good nick, it does turn off intermittently. Power windows, mirrors, and locks work as advertised, while the power moonroof and rear glass can be unfurled to fully immerse yourself in natural ventilation. The rear bench reclines slightly, and can also fold fully forward should you require additional cargo space in the rear. Overall it's hard to complain about this well-appointed cockpit. Other than a broken center climate vent and a small storage door below the radio that doesn't close, the cabin should serve its next owner well. We've even retained the factory owner's manual!
Under the hood, Toyota's 3RZ-FE is a fan-favorite mill and has more than enough grunt to get this body-on-frame rig up and going. Our trained technicians have performed extensive service on this 2.7L, ensuring you'll be able to reliably drive this one from the get-go. Starting with a new, US spec 12v battery which will allow the four-banger to churn over every time, even in the depths of winter. The cooling system was overhauled with a new water pump, thermostat, and radiator, and this one gets up to temp without issue! A new engine air filter keeps this one breathing healthily, and new gaskets on the oil pump, valve cover, and half-moon seals keep the lubrication from the fresh oil and filter service up to spec. Along with the new set of spark plugs and wires, this one is ready to hit the road! Around-town jaunts are easy, and the four-banger shoots up to highway speeds without breaking a sweat. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a selective transfer case. If an off-road excursion is in the cards, 4WD can be deployed alongside a center-locking differential for optimal traction. To dial in the handling on this beast, new rear lower control arms were installed, and new sway bar bushings were mounted up front. The power steering is light and easy to articulate, and new rack bushings up front keep the steering responsive and dialed. The ABS brakes can reel in this beast if an abrupt stop is required, and new 33" Falkens were mounted at all four corners and coupled with a fresh alignment. Not only does the rubber look good, but it should also pay dividends on whichever surface you choose to traverse with this super Surf!
