Exterior Overview

The Infiniti Q45 has a cult following in America, and for good reason. The model was innovative for its time, and stacked up nicely against similar offerings from Lexus and Acura. In Japan, they had the Nissan Cima, a luxury grand tourer that was both plush and powerful. Our 1997 Cima turbo is a fine example, boasting a powerful turbocharged drivetrain, a more refined interior, and understated yet stylish cosmetic touches. Finished in White Pearl (QM2) this super sedan is set off by an OEM front lip, a factory optional front grille, a rear trunk lip, and OEM rainguards. 19″ Makina Isotta wheels round off the aesthetic and with only 100k miles on the clock this terrific example is barely broken in. Easy to service, fun to drive, and great for transporting friends and family, this is one fun and functional Japanese Classic!

Interior Overview

The interior is a highlight of the model, and unlike our tired USDM leather interiors the seats are upholstered in an executive gray cloth. The cockpit has extraordinary fit and finish, plenty of useful power amenities, and can be comfortably daily driven, even in the 21st century. Both driver and passenger benefit from power-adjustable front seats, which house SRS airbags on the sides in case of any on-road emergencies. There are dual airbags up front, too, and a tilt and telescoping steering column to help you get comfortable behind the wheel. The dash lacks any cracking, fading, or distortion. It’s trimmed with complementary woodgrain accents and houses a factory multifunction display. Controls for the OEM audio and climate adjustment are easy to adjust, and cold A/C and hot heat are present for year round cruising. Power folding mirrors, power locks, and windows all work in typical Nissan fashion, making daily use more enjoyable. The glovebox is sizable and we have retained the owner’s manuals and maintenance booklets to preserve the history of this Y33. The headliner is in good shape, as are the carpets and door cards and there is little to complain about within the cabin, save for a few carpet stains and wear beneath the steering wheel cover.

Mechanical Overview

Designed as a premium executive sedan, this balanced and refined rear-drive saloon car is smooth as butter. The engine matches the chassis perfectly and creates decent power while saving fuel over the optional V8. Fresh off an oil and filter service. the 3.0L springs to life and settles into a smooth idle. It sounds throatier than stock due to a subtle FGK catback exhaust that also happens to free up a couple of ponies from the stable. The VQ makes impressive low-end torque and manages to move this heavyweight up to highway speeds with ease. The automatic gearbox shifts smoothly and throws power to the rear axle, as it should in a proper luxury sedan. Standard ABS brakes confidently slow this large barge down to a stop, and the power steering benefits from a full steering rack rebuild, performed by one of our trained technicians. We resealed the rack, installed new boots upon reassembly, and flushed out the system with new power steering fluid. New inner and outer tie rods and a fresh alignment promote proper tire wear, which will ensure the brand new all-season rubber lasts for a good while to come. Espelir lowering springs snug up the wheel gap a tad, and the ride quality is supple and akin to stock.
