The Pajero is the type of SUV for our blue-collar types. It may not be as glamorous or luxurious as other models, but its dogged reliability and 4x4 capabilities are second to none.

Exterior Overview

The Pajero is the type of SUV for our blue-collar types. It may not be as glamorous or luxurious as other models, but its dogged reliability and 4×4 capabilities are second to none. This 1997 has a decidedly more upmarket feel, and includes some expensive factory options that we hardly ever see. The handsome exterior benefits from the more angular and aggressive bodywork associated with the V45’s mid-cycle update. Set off by a set of factory rainguards, the optional hardshell spare tire, privacy tint, and an optional front brushguard, this truck is certainly stylish. The Nares Blue Pearl Blue (T38) over Hamilton Silver (A69) exterior shows well aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs, with this recently serviced rig being offered with a mere 41k verified and documented miles on the clock. This lovable Mitsubishi would make for a spacious family transporter, fun beach hauler, or year-round daily driver. Safe, affordable, and downright cool, this Japanese Classic is one for the ages!

Interior Overview

The cabin is sizable, well-equipped, and in above-average condition overall. Outward visibility is above average thanks to the tall ride height and the low-lying dashboard which lacks any cracking or fading. Dual SRS front airbags are on-hand for some added peace of mind, and all the audio and climate controls are close at hand as well. In near-mint condition, an OEM woodgrain steering wheel adds a touch of class to the cabin and breaks up the gray color palette! Power windows, door locks, and power-folding mirrors all make daily use more enjoyable and work like a charm. Cold A/C and singeing heat can be pumped into the cabin for those who live in seasonal climates and the optional digital display is simple to use. If you prefer a more natural breeze the massive panoramic moonroof slides open for an exposed view of the heavens above! The OEM audio functions properly, and includes the optional dash-mounted screen, if you want to drown out the kids on the commute to school. The seats are comfortable and the gray cloth is in above-average shape, lacking any major rips, stains, or tears. The plastics and soft-touch surfaces lack many of the typical abrasions we see as well! The middle row folds forward for maximizing cargo space and the rear row can be fully removed or stowed in the D-pillar. Such a complete vehicle also comes with the owner’s manuals, maintenance booklets, factory carpet mats, and even the OEM emergency flashlight!

Mechanical Overview

Under the skin this tough ute shares mechanicals with the US Montero SUV. This makes parts sourcing easy as pie, and these Pajero’s are built to take tons of abuse. Powering this seven-seater is the first direct-injected mass-produced V6 of all time. The updated design added a healthy heap of power and the throttle response is perhaps the best of all of our current slate SUVs. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 4G74 whirrs to life and is fresh off an oil and filter service. The engine is linked to a quick-shifting automatic gearbox. Manumatic shifting can be performed by the driver if you want to pretend you are driving a big blue sports car. If sand or snow stands in your way, 4WD can be quickly engaged and even can be done on the fly at speeds of up to 62 MPH. The optional center locker can help eke out that last bit of grip to keep momentum moving forward if need be. Acceleration is impressive for the vehicle’s age and getting onto and cruising on the highway is effortless. This example has particularly few squeaks and rattles of note, and is composed and predictable feeling. The ABS brakes do a wonderful job of slowing down this hulk and the power steering is light, yet on point. The honeycomb-style factory alloys are wrapped in nearly new 31″ Falkens at all four corners. Turn key and ready to rock, this Pajero is the nicest in recent memory and we feel the new Amercian owner is going to agree!
