Exterior Overview
A real enthusiast loves a fast wagon! This 1997 is fast, fun, useful, and unique. Think of it as a gentleman’s Evolution if you will, with the same class-leading pavement gripping AWD system and a slight uptick in displacement. The Maringa Green paint (G25) is in good shape, although we wanted to note that the hood was replaced at some point in Japan, and a few slight dings, chips, and scratches are present from normal use. Set off by OEM rainguards, OEM optional BBS alloys, and a factory rear spoiler this VR-4 is sporty, without appearing aggressive and ostentatious. Fresh off a recent service, this estate is offered with a mere 73k verified and documented miles on the ticker, meaning this all-weather wonder is barely broken in. This Japanese Classic is an all-around potent performer, and would be ideal as a year-round family hauler, sweet suburban sleeper, or cool and weekend cruiser!
Interior Overview
Wagons are utilitarian by nature and this one boasts loads of space and many power options. To make daily driving more enjoyable, power-folding mirrors, power locks, and power windows all function as they should. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column and a Nardi steering wheel, while both front occupants can rest assured that dual SRS airbags are standard equipment. The digital automatic climate control is within arms reach and simple to use. Cold A/C is primed and ready for next years summer and the heat is quite toasty! The OEM headunit works well and pumps in tunes to supplement your daily commute. The door cards and carpets are upholstered in matching gray, red, and blue cloth. The material lacks any major rips stains or tears and was cared for in a prior life. The carpets and headliner are in good nick too. We even have the OEM carpet mats installed to protect against future spills and stains. Even better the original owner’s manuals are inside the glovebox, too, a clear sign that the Japanese owner cared for this Legnum.
Mechanical Overview
Designed as a grown-up version of the Evolution, this V6-powered estate is no slouch as it relates to performance. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the Legnum churns to life promptly care of a new 12v battery and a brand new alternator will keep that sucker full of juice. The 6A13TT is linked to a five-speed manual gearbox. Rowing through the cogs is rewarding, and the transmission lacks any hitches or grinds. Power is fed to both axles and this wagon accelerates impressively. It slows down promptly, too, thanks to new front brake pads. The suspension is fairly refined and new inner and outer tie rods. The handling is impressive as this heavier platform feels nimble through the twisties. While the AYC no longer works, the Legnum still seems sharp as a knife when driving spiritedly. The power steering is on point after freshly aligning this Mitsu and new steering rack boots were installed for state inspection. Grip comes from four new all-season tires mounted and balanced on some lightweight BBS alloys. Practical, fun, and safe, this special VR-4 is a rewarding driver’s car that will fly under the radar!
