Ideal as a year-round daily driver, refined rally machine, or wicked weekend cruiser, this unique Japanese Classic is a performance bargain, and is turn-key and ready to rock!

Exterior Overview

Mitsubishi designed its flagship Evolution as a visceral, fast, and affordable sedan for the enthusiast. A legendary model, it boggles the mind that the Galant VR-4 doesn’t receive the same fanfare. It should, as these twin-turbocharged examples are plenty fast, reliable, easy to service, and attractive. It is also highly refined in comparison, which can’t be said for the downmarket Lancer. This 1997 is a stellar all wheel drive saloon, and is offered with only 45k verified and documented miles. Finished in a classic Trigger Mauve Metallic (T08), this Galant is set off by an OEM spoiler, OEM front lip, OEM rear apron, OEM side skirts, and some eye-catching Speedline alloy wheels. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs, the body is in good shape overall. Ideal as a year-round daily driver, refined rally machine, or wicked weekend cruiser, this unique Japanese Classic is a performance bargain, and is turn-key and ready to rock!

Interior Overview

The cabin is in wonderful shape and was cared for overseas. Access is made more seamless thanks to functional keyless entry, and the driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column and a classic Nardi leather steering wheel to find the ideal driving position. Dual SRS airbags are standard, and the dashboard lacks any cracking or fading. The digital automatic climate control system is close by and easy to operate. Cold air conditioning and piping hot heat make for comfortable cruising year-round. Below a touchscreen Azur headunit pipes in the tunes. It has Bluetooth hands-free integration so that the driver can keep their eyes on the road ahead. A sizable glovebox includes the maintenance manuals and owner’s booklets. Power folding mirrors, electric locks, and power windows all work in typical Mitsubishi fashion, making daily use more enjoyable. The charcoal and confetti style upholstery is in above average shape and lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. The carpets and headliner are in fine shape, and overall, it’s really hard to complain about the cabin.

Mechanical Overview

Under the hood, Mitsubishi fashioned a twin-turbo 6A13 V6, which is nothing short of a performance powerhouse. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 2.5L churns to life with the twist of the key. It’s linked to a stout automatic gearbox that was developed with help from Porsche, and the pilot can select gears with a tiptronic feature. To keep the fluid level topped up, we resealed the transmission pan and the shifts feel reassured and responsive. The midrange power is impressive and torque is fed through a full time all wheel drive system. It gets up and moves better than most cars twice its price, and slows down with confidence thanks to standard ABS and new rear brake pads. The suspension feels predictable and handles bumps without breaking a sweat. The cutting-edge Active Yaw Control works like a charm, tightening up the cornering even more. While the shocks could probably use a replacement, it can be driven comfortably daily. The power steering is direct and provides lots of feedback. The white Speedline wheels set this sedan off and are wrapped in brand new rubber. The new tires reduce road noise and should provide all the grip needed for tens of thousands of miles to come.
