Honda's first-generation CRV is a lovable crossover, and a model that still manages to shatter sales records to this day. Prized for its SUV-like utility while maintaining the efficiency and small footprint of a compact four-door, these RD1 CRV's are extraordinarily capable vehicles and a fantastic option for anyone considering a go-anywhere RHD daily driver. Our 1997 model sports the "Smart Scape" option package, which features a slew of improvements over more plebeian trim levels. Finished in Honda's Taffeta White (NH-571), the exterior shows well, with trick features such as body-color bumper covers, retro factory graphics, privacy tint, and a stylish rear wing. Save for a previous repair in the rear quarter, there's not much to gripe with the exterior, and this one is as much of a looker as it was on the showroom floor 25 years ago. Rolling on a set of 16" aftermarket alloys, this CRV is a fine unit, save for some normal dings, chips, and scratches along the exterior, and sports only 132k verified/documented miles. Affordable, reliable, and easy to service, this Comfortable Runabout Vehicle is one Japanese Classic that still stacks up to the competition today.

The interior is clean and chock full of space in both the front and rear. Sporting a more premium slate of materials over the previous iteration, this CRV boasts enough space and amenities to keep all passengers happy, and was clearly cared for in a prior life. The striped cloth upholstery on the seats is in good nick, showing no major rips, tears, or stains to note. Beefed up with more safety features than earlier models, the Smart Scape sports standard dual SRS airbags in the dash to give your passengers some extra peace of mind. The dash materials are clean and show no signs of cracking, peeling, or pesky UV damage. Even the faux wood burl trim has remained in good nick! A Panasonic audio upgrade is nestled in the dash, although it will need an SD card to run properly, and a fully functional automatic climate control suite is positioned underneath, with cold A/C and hot heat on hand to accommodate those in more temperamental climates. Power windows, locks, and even electric mirrors all operate at the push of a button and make the daily driving experience a bit more hassle-free for the fortunate next owner. We did want to note that the power folding function has given up the ghost on the side mirrors, so they must be manually folded in at this point. The back seats fold flat for cargo but also serve up plenty of space for three additional passengers, and a stowable picnic table cleverly sits in the trunk floor for any impromptu meals on the road. The headliner shows no major defects and overall the condition of this cabin should far exceed your expectations of a 25-year-old vehicle. We've even retained the funky OEM carpeted floor mats, sure to make any Honda enthusiast's day.

Under the bonnet, the dependable B20B is a fine choice to power this rig, and luckily shares most of the parts and serviceability of our USDM models! Our trained technicians have already gotten their hands dirty getting this one up to snuff, and she rides right as rain. Starting off with the basics, an oil and filter service was performed and a new set of spark plug wires were taken care of. A new engine air filter and fuel filter aid proper fuel combustion. A fresh oil pan gasket and valve cover gasket on top buttons up any unwanted lubrication leaks, and should add some peace of mind for those looking to hit the road for a long trip. Acceleration is plenty responsive in this compact SUV, and this one can get up highway speeds without breaking a sweat and return decent MPG while cruising. The newly refreshed automatic transmission feels a tad smoother than its predecessor and shifts up and down the gears are plenty responsive. AWD is at the ready, should you need it in a snowy climate. We've shored up the drivetrain a bit with some fresh trailing arm bushings in the rear. The brakes feel healthy and stop this one on a dime, and new Falken rubber on all four corners not only assists with stopping power but should deliver plenty of all-weather grip for miles and miles to come!
