Exterior Overview
The Celsior has a strong and enduring reputation, having consistently been one of the most luxurious and reliable vehicles we’ve offered at the dealership. Toyota followed a foolproof formula designing and revising this chassis, and this 1997 UCF21 is a fine example of this platform’s second generation. Its graceful, classic proportions are timeless and ours is finished in a lovely Ebony Teal Pearl (6N9). Set off by optional gold badges, the cosmetics are in good shape overall, although we did want to note a prior replacement of the right side doors, and some paintwork on the fenders from Japan. Beauty is more than skin deep, however, and we’ve serviced the silky smooth V8 drivetrain and completed some beneficial preventative maintenance here in the shop. The 53k miles on the clock are also verified and documented, and are a fraction of what’s typically found on USDM LS400’s. Boasting premium construction, loads of safety features, plenty of amenities, and an unparalleled demeanor on tarmac, this is one Japanese Classic that only gets better with age!
Interior Overview
The interior is tidy for being over 25 years young, and is fashioned in executive wool upholstery, a Japanese exclusive. The fabric shows well overall, save for some wear on the driver’s seat bottom and a few light stains on the headliner. The carpets are in good shape and are protected by some snazzy optional mats. The dash is also in good nick, although we wanted to note a bit of residue from a prior accessory removal. Dual front and side airbags are standard, adding some reassurance for those who value safety. The center stack features convenient controls for a digital automatic climate control unit, as well as premium OEM audio. Plenty of power equipment is also on hand to supplement your drive, including four automatic power windows, as well as electric locks and power-folding sonic side mirrors, which work in a pinch to free up rain or condensation from the lenses. Even the steering column is electric and can tilt and telescope. The rear bench is spacious and in good shape, and the trunk has oodles of room for luggage or groceries, while still retaining the factory spare tire and OEM toolkit. Even the original maintenance booklets are on hand for the new Amercian owner to enjoy. Sure there is some staining on the interior plastics, but as a whole, this sedan is quite nice. Especially compared to domestic Lexuses, the cabin is in far superior condition, and it’s primed and ready for daily use here in the USA!
Mechanical Overview
The 1UZ-FE under the bonnet is a marvel of engineering, and known worldwide for its seamless operation, stout construction, and decent fuel economy for what it is. Ours is fresh off a recent service and cranks over with haste. The 4.0 settles into a smooth idle after a fresh oil and filter service, and we performed a full flush of the cooling system to help regulate engine temperature. A few pesky oil leaks were attended to, and we took care of some new valve cover gaskets and half-moon seals, although we wanted to note a small seep is still present at the oil pan. New serpentine belts drive your accessories reliably, and with the work performed this UZ is a treat to drive, jetting up to highway speeds effortlessly through a 4-speed automatic gearbox. To bolster the suspension for the road ahead, new caster arms were installed, and this Celsior rides like a cloud over road imperfections large and small. although the height adjustment on the factory airsus has given up the ghost. It stops on a dime too, thanks to new rear brake pads that were installed in the shop. Keeping you insulated from the harsh pavement, we wrapped the factory alloys in fresh rubber that’s snazzy and good for all seasons. We freshly aligned it too, to maximize tire life. When it comes to luxury, there are no compromises, and you can never go wrong with a flagship Toyota product.

CARB certifications will have to be performed within the state. Depending on the vehicle and any existing modifications will affect the pricing. Typically CARB compliance will range between 5-10K.
